Looks like that village is going ahead:

Bupa retirement village gets the go-ahead for Ulyatt Rd in Napier

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/hawkes-ba...ectid=12129145

Work will start next year to build more than 100 homes for the region's retirees, after private healthcare provider Bupa received the go-ahead for a new retirement village.

A Napier City Council resource consent hearing has approved plans for a 5795sq m village and complex that would include a kitchen, nursing station, communal dining and lounge areas and a visitor, service, reception and administration area on Ulyatt Rd in Napier.

The proposal comprises 99 single-storey retirement villas with internal garaging, 19 retirement apartments and associated detached garages, 49 care beds, as well as communal facilities and support facilities.

I'll be interested to see how it goes, it certainly isn't without its critics.

Welcome to the forum, your name is where I work~

It reminds me of the dreadful Convention Centre makeover, you know how much I love Napier but when I visited in September I couldn't believe what a mess this current Council is making.

That said the rest of the Marine Parade is looking good but the new road layout is dire and it seems any building not Art Deco is being pulled down.

Lets hope the entire Council is replaced next election.

Not sure if the above render is the confirmed one, but if so, the council won't be paying a lot for architects fees - the design is the exact copy of the recently completed QEII Recreation and Sports Centre https://warrenandmahoney.com/portfol...-sports-centre

Bold plan for $77.5 million National Aquarium in Napier
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/117...rium-in-napier

Telling New Zealand's story, from the mountain tops to the deep ocean.

That's the ambitious goal of a business case submitted by Napier City Council for a new $77.5 million National Aquarium that would replace the present aquarium, much of which needs to be demolished.

The council this week submitted its detailed business case to the Ministry of Business of Business Innovation and Employment in the hope it secures $15m - $35m from the Government and its Provincial Growth Fund.

A bit more info here:
https://www.napier.govt.nz/napier/pr...nsion-project/

Looks like if the funding isn't sorted etc, the aquarium as a whole could face closure in 5 years time
