Yeah Steva, I went back to visit the last Christmas after 4 years away and I couldn't believe the amount of change that had occurred in that time, especially in the downtown area. Toowoomba is really beginning to grow up. After the completion of the new range crossing, and the inland rail, and not to mention the completed new airport, it's certainly turning itself into a thriving respectable inland city.
Exciting times ahead for Toowoomba!

Got a chance to see what was happening the other week.

No activity on 'The Glad' or 'South Central' sites, I did find another that I haven't seen here and will post that when I'm more organised.

it looks like Mcnab have won the tender for not only the Glad Hotel which is going to be an Oaks but also South Central which is estimated to be around 20-30 million to construct tenders for it are due on the 15th of October. Finally some more activity. Plus the Qantas Pilot Academy is a huge boost for the airport and Toowoomba! Word is also the terrace houses at the Avenues of Highfields are being developed by the developer himself and a few investors from Brisbane because noone in Toowoomba, ie. architects, builders etc. can do them properly they are in the recently finished second stage surronding the central parkland

I just snagged these from the news site as I can't find great images of these new renders for the new glad building.
It looks ok, small but will still make an impact on Toowoomba's little skyline.

Good effort to get the images leothelion. That section opposite the city hall looks nice and modern with Burke and Wills, Toowoomba Central Plaza and now the Glad development.

They just do that so we're less disappointed when they don't build it.

It makes sense for the highway to be the Warrego, they might actually give a name to the new viaduct crossing though.

Next year the most spectacular road in Queensland will open cutting travel times from the Fridge on the Ridge to Brissy by 30 mins. Incrediible viaducts like in Europe will link Toowoomba to the State Capital and I am sure will bring thousands of tourists to the garden city just to experince the road. There will be nothing like this in Queensland and I can see car commercials using the viaducts in tv adds and Toowoomba itself getting a huge surge in tourism as brissy and gold coast locals escape the sticky coastal heat for the cool moutntain climate of Toowoomba now just an easy 90min drive.

In a nutshell rather than wind your way up the Toowoomba Range there now will be a spectaclar viaduct or ramp that will climb the range with no twists and turns but killer views like something out of Germany or Switzerland way to go Toowoomba.

as far as project news goes...
-Gladstone Hotel development has an excavator on site. The wall along Kwon Sang Walk has been knocked down
-South Central has new fencing up, though no sign of any activity on site...
-Glenvale aged care development seems pretty much finished. Certainly stands out in the area

-Railway Goods Shed restoration works are well underway

-This little one on Campbell Street near the top of Neil Street is getting close to finishing

I heard once that a societies largest buildings reflect their values. Does not bode well for Toowoomba!

Yes, between this and the hospital, it would seem everyone's old or sick. Or a mallrat - Grand Central is pretty massive.
