Podium levels look great. The remainder is quite average.

I quite like it actually, not sure why but it just seems to look quite well designed even if there is a lot of concrete. Anyways, nice to see yet another sizable addition to proposals in Darwin!

Highrise Capital of the north?

In Darwin at the moment. Currently that site is home to the local Hog's Breath franchise plus an adjoining bar called the The Fox Ale Inn, or somesuch.

Any update on the approval of the planning for this one?

Is the site the Hogs breath site or the site with the infamous ugly units?

It's the Hog's Breath site next to the hideous Housing Commission flats.

Council's planning panel doesn't sit again until early February.

This project will definitely go ahead as anything Halikos has proposed before has been built.

It was recently before the development Consent Authority, having been deferred for amendments to parking, drop off areas and delivery accesses.

There was a news item recently about the relocation of Hogs Breath Café.

It looks to me like the vacant lot behind this development site is filling up with crane sections and other building materials in readiness for demo and construction.

That vacant block had a fair amount of construction gear on-site during my recent stint in Darwin (Dec 13 - Apr 14). Unfortunately I can't tell if there is more there than previously.
