Crown Proposal:

Quote:
Billionaire James Packer’s Crown Resorts and Chinese state-owned backers Greenland Holding have proposed a six-star hotel, two five-star hotels and gambling facilities.

Mr Packer’s plans include a distinctive bridge with a suspended waterfall, a family water park, 800-seat ballroom, a new 2000-seat South Bank theatre and cinemas.

Echo Proposal

Quote:
The proposal by Destination Brisbane, which includes Echo Entertainment, the Far East Consortium and Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, features a stunning curved building and “sky deck” over William St reminiscent of the architectural feats of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Echo’s plans have the distinct advantage of taking in its existing Treasury Casino which would become a premium department store.

Five premium hotels, including converting the existing Treasury Hotel into a Ritz Carlton, are included in the bid along with an underground retail arcade beneath Queen’s Gardens.

As well as a new Lyric Theatre at South Bank, the plan includes a pedestrian bridge and significant open space, including parkland on the existing river akin to a scaled-back version of the former North Bank proposal.

Dayum, both concepts are really cool.
Seems like Brisbane is really lucky either way.

I like both, apart from the casino they both contribute some good things to the city either through new lyric theatres, hotels, resorts, pedestrian bridge across Brisbane River and retail space.

Aesthetically, I'm leaning towards Echo's proposal at the moment. Crown seem to me to opting for something a bit more conservative than Echo. Echo seem to have a real iconic structure that will define the city skyline through the curved building and skydeck. Also impressed with the vertical skygarden.

ECHO Proposal feels more civic minded and just looks 'Brisbane'

They're both... kinda boring. I don't know - I was expecting something a little more.

I kind of like what Echo have done with the existing heritage buildings though.

Hopefully Crown looks good on the inside. Are there any other renders of it?

Here's one

Nice!!! Capital City will do well with either of these proposals. That sky deck in the Echo proposal reminds me of that one in Singapore.

I favour the Crown proposal. The Echo proposal is frankly ugly and tacky.

I disagree completely. Crown looks like a cookie cutter of Barangaroo and probably a cheap version at that. Echo looks stunning in those videos. The added advantage is what they can do to the existing Treasury Casino - Crown doesn't have hat option.

Agree. Both look great, and much more than I expected.

The Echo proposal looks more like Brisbane, definitively.

But the complementary video is really bad, specially the last part of it.

Seven News Queensland (22/12/2014): Report on the proposals. Disappointing that Crown didn't come out and have a press conference. Echo's John O'Neil mentions about their proposal taking "nothing to chance", which you can see well.

Who ever did the Echo renders needs to stop playing The Sims.
