Yet the Liberal foamers still perpetuate the myth that nothing gets built quickly in Victoria due to the overstated influence of unions.

Oh yeah... geez, I wish we had China's work and safety standards!
And yep, we are going too slow... we should have a comparable amount of construction going on with a country that has over 300 times our city's population.

What a ridiculous thing to say.

All I'm saying is that meeting somewhere in the middle woukd be nice. Agree, safety is important, but that's not what I'm referring to

On holidays Wouldn't mind living down here...although I'm not sure I'd enjoy a Melbourne winter. I was kinda hoping for a bit of cooler weather while I was here, although warm weather has been good too, been hitting the beaches quite a bit.

Could'nt agree more mate! What a wanker, there is always someone who thinks the grass is greener on the other side....and just where would you want to live and have a job? Some of these guys need to get out and travel and see how lucky they are to have the wonderful life they have!!! Unions or not, don't forget you would not have the lifestyle that these blokes fought for years ago.

Somewhere in the middle?
lozza, you talk as though there is no construction going on in the city, bc of unions.

You may be surprised to know, that we just happen to have the most high-rise & the most skyscrapers under construction than any other city in this country.

No, the sky isn't actually falling.

I think somewhere in the middle is a fair comment

I think us having the biggest construction boom than any other city in this country -- and now apparently wanting more by virtue of bringing down costs -- not only sounds a bit greedy, but rather, ungrateful.

I don't like things being expensive, just as much as the next guy. But it's not like construction is drying up in Melbourne because of this. I believe this unprecedented boom in high-rise buildings is a testament to that.

No I'm not tbh. What I'm referring to is the actual time it takes them to build the towers, and all the nonsesnse red tape. That's all I'm referring to..

Each to their own, but I'm in the camp that this industry is over unionized something shocking.....

Vision, EQ, 568, Prima, Lighthouse -- recent constructions of some of Melbourne's tallest buildings -- each have gone up pretty quickly from the moment construction started. 2 and a half years of construction, average.

2 years is nothing.

I feel you're going to be pulling your hair out by the time One Queensbridge starts its 5-6 years of construction. Forget it being such a large building or being built on land previously occupied by a swamp --- it must be the unions fault for such a long amount of time for construction.
