Yes Melb has more taller bldgs in cbd, they should do what sydney is doing and spreading them out in the burbs. We have hundreds uc all over the metro, something Melb should try

I personally think that 150m should be the starting point for any skyscraper. 100m just doesn't cut it by world standards.

^yes i agree, many years ago, yes the days before computers, when you used to go to libraries to look up information and research, i used the World Almanac for skyscraper data. (only buildings of 500ft or more)it was updated yearly and i waited so so patiently every October. The list of tallest buildings from North America. and they added from around the world eventually !

You should have a closer look at what's happening in South Yarra, Box Hill, Moonee Ponds and Footscray.

Aspire (8 Parramatta Square) - 233m (plus 4 Parramatta Square - 134m??)
parra4 is now part of aspire? definatley not individual tower. attached to Aspire

yes its good to see some 100m projects happening in those hubs.
but pretty close-south yarra only 4km from city centre, moonee 6kms,Footscray 5kms
but box hill has some distance away at 14km

sydney has dozens of these hubs now with dozens of skyscrapers which can go up to 60storeys high which in a few years will look incredible
We have places like Sydney olympic park which seem close to sydney but is 14km from CBD just like Box Hill
we have hubs like Hornsby which is 23km from cbd and talk of 30-40 storey bldgs
Blacktown is 30km from CBd and now has 30storey bldgs/
(all distances in straight line)

Except Melbourne is still dwarfed by Sydney's numbers in everything else. In sydney, the bulk of all the development is made up of smaller high rises which shows with 61 (35-100m) developments U/C compared to Melbourne's 19.

And i haven't even touched the stuff approved

Melbourne and Sydney have taken two really different approaches to increasing density. Sydney has taken the European model of shorter but higher volumes of denser and tightly packed city blocks spread everywhere whereas Melbourne has taken the approach more common in Asia with more outrageously impressive tall towers concentrated in the centre.

Two approaches which seem to both work well in their respected cities

Wow, Melbourne's going to have 23 skyscrapers over 200m. That's pretty impressive. Well done Melbourne.

With maybe as many as 14 more to come including a couple supertalls (1QB and BMW).

yes numbers of skyscrapers say over 10stories, sydney probably has double the amount.
sydney is very strict on height seems compared to melbourne.
Sydneys are getting taller out in the burbs rather then the CBD. but sydney is growing up with many over 250m-300m in pipeline.
thanks to CASA we may never have a supertall but thats life in a big city

Can't talk about anything in the national forum without turning it into a Melbourne discussion. Yawn.

Hey hey, we're just really quiet in the national forums. If we really wanted to, we could absolutely flood the 35-100m high-rises thread with our suburban projects.
