CIVIC & INNER NORTH - General Projects & Discussion (>5lvl)

Hi All

As I flagged earlier, I thought the ACT threads could be combined into regions because there are a large number of low-mid rise projects in the ACT. Each on their own don't really deserve their own thread but are interesting anyway.

This is the new office development planned for the corner of Northbourne and Cooyong. I don't think there is demand at the moment though so I doubt it will go ahead.

And the new Raiders club development on the site of the current Braddon Club. Also on Cooyong St.

This one is currently mired in objections

Great stuff Andy. I like the look of the Dickson development especially. That area has been crying out for something like that. IQ looks like it could have been designed by some of the practitioners currently selling their architectural wares here in Darwin. Think Kube on Cavenagh Street.

Thanks for this. I thought the hotel development on Northbourne was going to be part of the Abode chain. I'll be particularly interested to see how the Campbell development turns out. That land has been vacant since Moses played halfback for Jerusalem.

Thanks Andy!
Great work setting up these sub-groups for different regions in Canberra.
I've noticed over the last few years that many many medium sized (5-8 level) developments have gone up around Canberra without much or in many cases any comment on this site (not blaming anyone, as I haven't posted anything for ages! ha ha)...I wondered whether maybe it's because so much was happening that we (Canberra members of this forum) were perhaps getting to the stage where only the big or different ones were exciting enough to bother commenting on?
Probably a sign of a maturing city...like the larger cities where there'd be heaps of these smaller developments happening without any comment on this forum?

Anyway, back on topic...
I also like the look of a few of the inner-north developments..the Dickson one in particular will be exicting as it will mark the beginning of a huge transformation of Dickson...(let's hope the anti-development stacked North Canb Community Council doesn't get it's claws stuck into it!).
I might post a comment on the 'Braddon Developments' post that I set up ages ago directing further discussion to this post instead.
I like how you've broken CBR up into these areas and think it works better than my original 'braddon developments' as that is quite limiting (despite the current splurg of stuff happening there).

Cheers!

Thanks

The big 'problem' with Canberra is that there are such a large number of developments that are interesting enough to follow but not significant enough to have their own thread. So it made sense to put everything together into regional threads.

I spend a lot of time out on the bike doing training rides which gives me a good opportunity to get some pics, so I should be able to keep the threads relatively up to date.

Still haven't got around to a Woden/Tuggers thread yet. I'll see if I can get some pics on the weekend as there are a couple of new developments of interest.

Oh, and I think if the Government gets its new call-in powers approved then there should be a lot less worry about the inner north nimbys.

Interesting to see development finally taking place on the site next to the civic pub! Not sure what the new one is called (was arte at some point).

At the current rate, in 5 years time Lonsdale street will actually be quite vibrant by the looks of things. Mode3 is quality!

More updates

Jamieson Apartments

Campbell 5 (not a good pic, sorry)

Creswell Residences (demolition complete, piling underway)

Also, there is storm fencing up around the RSL offices, indicating that project (6-8 level resi plus a 4 level office if I remember) is about to get underway. The RSL office is two doors down from Creswell(so to the right of the above pic)

Is that one of the Sydney/Melbourne buildings in the render?

Yup. Melbourne Building.

This project is the Canberra Club site. So directly across West Row from the Melbourne Building.

They are basically renovating the existing tower (that's the building to the right of the render) and replacing the current 3 level annex with a new apartment tower. I'm not sure if it also covers the carpark next door (between the existing building and London Circuit).

edit: I just hope it doesn't interfere with Two Before Ten. That's the best coffee in the city.

Great stuff. Canberra is starting to densify nicely.

The apartments in the Canberra house redevelopment are been marketed as Mayfair Apartments. Public launch is on the 5th July.

Ground level is commercial/retail (with walkways/lanes)
1st to 4th floors for car parking
5th to 16th floors will be residential - 191 apartments in total

Expected demolition of the existing building to commence approx January 2015 with an approx two (2) year build time.
