haha nar i find it weird too. I always say "but youre already in perth"

Its the city!! I think its mixed but yeah a lot of people say perth. I think too its cos of Freo being its own 'city' in a way and it avoids any confusion...not that there really would be any.

I thought those workforce figures seemed strange too, with Adelaide having more than Brisbane ? Have always thought Brisbane's core CBD is pretty small, although south of Victoria Square there's not a lot to Adelaide's fairly large one, heck it even has terrace houses.
Urgh I hate it when people say they 'went up to perth for the day'. Especially from down here, I mean we are far from the city, but its still metro The locals treat kwinana/rockingham as separate cities -___-

Dear southern bogans,
The correct term is 'to the city' not 'to perth'.
Kind Regards,
Bullswool

I found the numbers in the report at this link. Not sure how they derived them. I thought Sydney had significantly higher employment in the CBD than Melbourne.

From the same document

Almost 86,000 people now reside in our municipality. The number of weekday visitors the city welcomes every day and night to work, study, shop, dine, access services, transact business and deliver goods is climbing to 700,000. Within a decade, one million people will visit Melbourne every weekday.

Must be people from Rockingham/Mandurah way because I've never heard anyone say they're off to "Perth".

why do regional centers such as Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo ect, have signs saying "city center", and not "city"? It wouldnt matter if it said "city" as people would know its not refering to Melbourne as signs point to Melbourne and say "Melbourne".

Because 'city' would generally refer to Capital City CBDs?

I regularly see buses in Geelong that say only "City".

I think Ballarat had signs pointing to 'City', might have changed now though I guess?

Looks like I found one sign, so they probably do for Ballarat.

In adelaide, we either say "we're off to town" or "we're off to the city". Ive never EVER heard someone in the metro area say "we're off to Adelaide"

... because we aren't. When I'm in Perth I'll refer to the CBD as the city. Just like when I'm in Mandurah I'll refer to the CBD as the town.

most of us Adelaideans seem to say, "I'm heading into town" or, "I'll meet you in town". Similar cult as to how every South Australian greets everyone with a "howdy" mumble, caus I do

I have _never_ heard anyone in Adelaide say we're off to Adelaide. Hell, I've hardly heard anyone say "city" either. I always say I'm heading off to town. Or meet you in town. Etc.

Same goes for Howdy. :P

The Americans seem to say we're going into town too. They always refer to the massive cities as towns, freaks me out.
Anyway I have never heard of anyone here saying they are going into town, which i find weird. Its always either Civic or city.
