I have so much hate for that building. When they were constructing it, there was a billboard out the front featuring a render in which the round sections were clad entirely in (blue?) glass. It drove me mental that they were constructing something so different (and so much crappier) than the picture right out the front. You suck, Harry.

"Leura" in Chatswood looks very much like the horrendous "Bullring" in lovely downtown Birmingham and that dates from the 1960's, truly awful cheap design and people still want to pay good money for it. I recall when Harry s's building in George Street (in conjunction with Merition) was built, Harry T, had the affrontry to state "at long last people are asking for quality, and that is why I teamed with Harry S. Apparently, he didn't see the irony of his words that he and his architects couldn't design Stalag XIII

Awful, isn't it? This thread contains enough evidence for Harry T to be put away for crimes against humanity.

Its like he has a monocolour design team. They are only allowed one colour. Beige and shades of.

I actually like the Bentleigh - I think its a good outcome for a suburban apartment building. But that High Park Tower...I thought it must have been an early example, perhaps from the late seventies as Harry T was just carving out a niche for himself in the Sydney apartment market...but no, I was horrified to discover it was completed in 2001!

So if Meriton was founded 1966, what kind of stuff were they building in the 1970's and 80's? Just smaller suburban unit blocks? The examples in this thread seem to be all from the 1990's onwards.

His first building was a three storey block of walk up units in Meriton Street, Gladesville. Thats where the company names from - the street itself.

The Bentleigh

would anyone know the name of the architect(s) of High Park Tower by any chance? Need it for a project, thanks in advance.

Given the period when it was built, I suspect it was designed by Meriton's in-house 'architects'. It is only in very recent times that Meriton has been made to use independent architects for the original design of their projects, though it appears that in-house architects move in and "Meritonise" the design in the later stages. You know, to give it that special Meriton touch.

It's no use. You and i can see it just fine, but to a zealot like him they're the greatest buildings ever to grace Sydney.
