Lugano | Torre Capo San Martino | 20 floors

A while ago a tower of 20 floors was proposed for the small area of Capo San Martino on the other side of the lake facing Lugano city. This wasn't the only skyscraper proposed near here, another architect proposed another 20 floor tower in Melide.

Chances of these being approved are very slim, not only would it be visible from everywhere in the city and from the mountains but it would impose on the historic buildings that are present in the area.

However, there are other tall towers going up in Lugano.

Within the new quarter of Cornaredo, two 15-17 floor towers have been approved. Also Lugano hosts other highrises including a 15 floor social housing block in Bozzoreda/Cornaredo (not a nice example but tall nonetheless ), a 16 floor residential tower in Viganello, the 16 floor hospital Civico and the 18 floor residential building in Cassarate.

Since the proposal, there hasn't been any news on this, sadly.

Here are some mediocre quality renders of the building:

Interesting. I am wondering if it would be visible from the top of San Salvatore as well. And what would have been the proposed mode of operation? Hotel? Residential?

i don't think it fits there . it should rather be built close to or within the city.

@U3065: Here's a couple of pictures of that tower:

It has 20 floors, it is around 80-90m high, it contains 20 luxury appartments, one on each floor, each appartment 600m2!

@chadw_: Yeah, me too, if Lugano were to have a skyscraper, i'd think somewhere within the city would be great, and not so faraway.

Interesting project, how to get to this location, is there an official street? Looks very isolated.

As el tico says, it's just around the corner from Paradiso. That's why it's such a special place. It "looks" remote but in fact is quite close to the center of Lugano. And you see also the street on the picture. It's big enough.

I just noticed i can see the current building from my balcony :

This means the new building will make quite a big impact even from far away.
