Mount Abu to get a skywalk like the Grand Canyon

Quote:
MOUNT Abu: If all goes right, this hill resort may soon get a skywalk on the lines of the one at Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon skywalk is a U-shaped metallic walkway jutting out over the rim of the canyon that gives tourists the thrill of walking over the gorge. Other projects in the pipeline are a ropeway from Honeymoon Point to Bhairu Track and an amusement park at Dayanand Saraswati park.

The three projects are among several others that the urban development ministry of Rajasthan has planned for its major cities. A presentation for the skywalk, the ropeway as well as several projects ranging from roads to parking to water and sewerage were made to the Rajasthan government recently.

The projects are planned under the Swiss Challenge Approach, where a private sector firm submits an unsolicited proposal and draft contract principles for undertaking a project and the government then invites competitive counter bids to derive maximum benefit out of these projects.

"The selected proposals will be forwarded to related committees for clearance, after which the promoter company will be asked to develop a detailed project report," said G S Sandhu, principal secretary, urban development and housing (UDH) department.

A meeting held under the chairmanship of Sandhu inked the proposal for the cities where various amenities, facilities will be made available. Proposals hanging fire for past many years for Mount Abu have been cleared. Detailed project reports for the same have been asked for.

आमेर-जयगढ़ के बीच सुरंग

Quote:

[/SIZE]
A tunnel between Amer and Jaigarh fort Found!

Quote:
A new phase is entering into the city's most important tourist place: Amer Fort. The restoration being done by the Archeological department have found a tunnel which joins Amer to Jaigarh fort. The restoration work at Amer has been going on since 2006. If everything stays right then it will take only 1 and a half km to reach Jaigarh from Amer. The tunnel was full of rubbish hence a clean up task was taken up on the 25th november which when finished reached the walls of Jaigarh.

The tunnel is 325 meters long. The current distance from Amer to Jaigarh is 8km if this tunnel is used then the distance will be just 1 and a half kilometers.

From a tourist point of view this tunnel can prove to be very attractive as right above it are the beautiful domes and corridors of the Rangmahal and While travelling in the tunnel one can also get beautiful views of the mountains.

This is not the first time a tunnel has been found in Amer. Back when the restoration began in 2006 a tunnel was found underneath Rangmahal and further digging of it was done in 2008. Now these tunnels join the tunnel which has been found.

The tunnel will open in 6 months as there is still some work left. After this it could be open for tourists. To conserve the tunnel it would take 40-45 lakhs.

Cheetah may now come to Hadauti region

Quote:
ALWAR/JAIPUR: Despite the fate of the Cheetah project in the Shahgarh Bulge in Jaisalmer uncertain, the state can still hope to be a home for the cheetah.

And this time, the animal could come to the grasslands near Rawatbhata in Hadauti.

Union minister of forest and environment Jairam Ramesh assured that the cheetah would come to state. "I had a talk with chief minister Ashok Gehlot and he has assured me that he would talk to the local leaders at Jaisalmer so that the cheetah could be brought to the Shahgarh bulge in Jaisalmer," he said during a visit on Sunday.

The minister and Gehlot also discussed the issue of conducting surveys in other parts of the state, suitable for cheetah habitat.

Officials revealed that the ministers agreed upon conducting a survey of the grasslands near Rawatbhata in Hadauti for developing a cheetah habitat.

The Ministry after a survey by the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) had chosen Kuno-Palpur and Nauradehi in Madhya Pradesh and Shahgarh Bulge in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan for introducing the cheetah, now extinct in India.

While MP has gone ahead with the project, Rajasthan is yet take a decision on the project primarily due to the opposition from oil and natural gas exploration companies in the region that feel the presence of the big cat could be dangerous.

Later on his visit to Sariska, Ramesh expressed his worry about the slow pace of relocation of villages from the reserve. He urged state officials to expedite the process so that tiger population can be re-established in the forest.

On the issue of declaration of eco-sensitive zones around the forests Ramesh said, "I have discussed the issue and in two days eco-sensitive zones would be declared around the sanctuaries in the state," he said.

With the declaration of these zones, the issue of mining within and outside these national parks would be tackled and the mine leases in these areas would be cancelled. The state has already sent its proposal in this regard to the Ministry.

Gehlot also apprised the Union minister on a number of problems faced in the Desert National Park spread over 3,162 km in the districts of Jaisalmer and Barmer.

The issue of granting environmental clearance for coal blocks for thermal power plants in the state was also discussed between the two. Gehlot urged Ramesh for a quick clearance of the coal block in Parsa Kante in Chhattisgarh so that thermal power projects in the state could take off.

Water Tank found in the 227 years old Aanand Krishna Bihari Temple, Jaipur

Translation:

Past Taught:

Saving Water: The temple had a water tank on its roof which. The water from the drains on the roof use to be diverted towards the well in the square (chowk) Then from this well the water tank on the roof used to be filled up. In this way the water needs of the whole temple used to be fullfilled. Until 1963, around 100 people used to live in the temple who never had a problem relating to water.

In the garden 20 feet long and 20 feet wide waterways were built. The space around it was kept open. These drains were joined with the tank on the roof and water released from the tank irrigated the garden thus the water got back to the water table.

The history of the temple: The Temple was established 227 years ago in the reign of Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh by his wife Maa Aanandi Bai Patyani. The idols were brought from Vrindavan and later on the Maharaja had established Aanandeshwar Mahdev temple inside this temple's premises as well.

The Temple now comes under the buffer zone of new world heritage site: Jantar Mantar. Hence is being renovated by the Archeological department for the last 4 months. Around 26 lakhs are to be spent on this project.

Keoladeo sanctuary to go solar
Quote:
JAIPUR: The Keoladeo bird sanctuary in Bharatpur would soon be contributing to conservation in more ways than one. Apart from being one of the finest birding areas, the sanctuary would soon go solar. It will be one of its only kind of park to be completely free from conventional energy sources.

According to R N Mehrotra, principal chief conservator of forest and head of forest forces, Rajasthan, "Work is on at the sanctuary to make it go solar. All sources using conventional energy would be replaced with those dependent on solar energy."

This would not only include lighting but air-conditioners in offices and guest houses. "The move will help us reduce carbon footprints. We will not be using any planetary energy source eventually. The project, in collaboration with the Centre, will be implemented by the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL). Work has already begun and is expected to be completed within a year," he added.

RRECL has floated tenders for 10 solar power plants of 200 wattage power (Wp) at all the chowkis in the park, a 8-KW grid-solar hybrid power plant at the Dr Salim Ali Convention Centre and another such 2-KW plant near the entrance gate. Solar lanterns and solar searchlights will also be procured as will be three six-seater battery-operated cars to take tourists on safaris.

The Keoladeo Ghana National Park or Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, as it is called, is famous as one of Asia's finest birding areas, with over 380 resident and migrant species, including the common, demoiselle and the rare Siberian cranes. It is also an excellent place to watch mammals like golden jackal, striped hyena, fishing cat, jungle cat, nilgai, sambar, blackbuck and wild boar. The park also finds a place in the world heritage list.

The park will also be getting a facelift of sorts with the entrance to the park and the reception area redone.

"Currently, the entrance to the park is not very decorative but that will all be redone. We will also be putting up closed circuit cameras near the entrance to monitor all activities," officials said.

The Nature Interpretation Centre within the park will also be redone to accommodate an internet cafe for tourists. "The cafe will have facilities for an online library and surfing," officials said.

Even the issue of the Goverdhan drain, slated to be the lifeline for the future of the park, has been addressed. According to Mehrotra tenders have been finalised and sub-contracts have also been identified and the project is expected to take off soon. The drain will be bringing in water to the park that otherwise has been going through a dry patch threatening its world heritage status some time ago.

अब जोधपुर में गुल खिलाएगा बैटमैन

Quote:

Raj, Gujarat join hands to boost tourists' inflow

Quote:
Jaipur: Soon, NRI tourists visiting Gujarat will also get to see the desert state and admire Pink City. The two popular tourist states of Rajasthan and Gujarat are working on plans to attract tourists from Europe and the US and help each other in promoting domestic and NRI tourism. If the plan works out, foreign tourists visiting Rajasthan will visit Gujarat and vice-versa on conducted tour packages.

Tourism officer, Gujarat Tourism at Jaipur, CM Rao, said tour packages are being planned, which will cover tourist places in Gujarat and Rajasthan. "Both the states have several popular sightseeing and wildlife places which can be promoted collectively. The collaboration between the two states is expected to increase about 30 per cent NRI tourists in Rajasthan. There is a possibility of involving few airlines for providing air travel to tourist groups wanting to visit both the states," Rao added.

Both the states have plans in the pipeline to jointly promote tourism in western India. "Promotion plans for state tourism from any part of the country or world is welcome," said Usha Sharma, principal secretary, tourism, Government of Rajasthan.

Instead of individually promoting tourism in Gujarat and Rajasthan, the two states are collectively gearing up to attract tourists. Local tour operators are positive about the move and said it will benefit both the states. "Gujarat has probably the highest number of NRI tourists. Many Gujaratis settled abroad visit their homes during winters and can be potential tourists for our state. A collective promotion of tourism will help Rajasthan also," said Madhu Singh, director, Rajasthan Tours.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab are also expected to be a part of the joint venture soon. "Punjab receives the second highest number of NRI tourists in the country. They can be taken to a visit to Rajasthan," added Rao.

Century-old rare Jodhpur royalty battle weapons to be displayed in museums

Quote:
Jaipur: Antique battle weapons, including firearms used in World War I and II, will now go on display for civilians and the army. The state government has allowed the erstwhile royal family of Jodhpur and the army to display the rare century-old weapons, in police custody until now.

PK Deb, additional chief secretary, home, said, "The royal family of Jodhpur has been allowed to display the firearms in their museums. The army was also interested in displaying some of these rare weapons, which has been permitted."

There are around two-dozen weapons, which were used by the infantry of the Jodhpur kingdom in the pre Independence era. Records show, "These weapons were reportedly used in the first and second World Wars and the China war by the state forces of the erstwhile Marwar (Jodhpur)."

Police said the arms can be displayed in specifically-designated museums. But, the weapons will continue to remain in police custody. In its order to facilitate public display of these rare firearms, home department said, "Police will look into the security aspects and retain locks of the display cases."

In the same spirit, the home department has allowed the weapons to be displayed by the Army. Officials said the arms will be directly handed over to the Army authorities and a letter of consent will be obtained both from the Army and the Maharaja of Jodhpur.

Sources said after independence, the former royal families had to surrender their arms and ammunition under the arms license rules which prohibited a person from keeping more than three arms. As a result, the entire cache of weapons was handed over to the government, which placed them under the local police's security.

The order, taken out by the home department, clarifies its stake on the rare property. It says, "In spite of display of these weapons in various museums owned by the Maharaja of Jodhpur or various Army corps or the police, they will remain the property of the state government. Proper documentation for handing over of these weapons should be made and security aspects must be taken care of properly."

The 'Inception' director will be shooting 'The Dark Knight Rises' at the Mehrangarh Fort on May 6 and May 7

Think "Memento". Think " Inception". Think " The Dark Knight Rises". Well, the name that comes to mind is director Christopher Nolan. And guess what? The director will be in Jodhpur to shoot "The Dark Knight Rises" with none other than Christian Bale. However, no other Hollywood actors from the film will be part of this shooting schedule in India. Incidentally, Nolan had come down to India in December to scout for locations in Jodhpur. That was when he chose to shoot in Jodhpur's Mehrangarh Fort. The main crew will start arriving from May 1. Christian Bale is expected to arrive in India on May 4 or May 5. Though permissions have been sought for shooting the film for the whole of May, the unit will shoot in India for only two days — May 6 and May 7.

Incidentally, hotels in Jaipur and Jodhpur have been booked for the crew. Says a source, "Nolan had scouted locations in both Jodhpur and Jaipur. But, he fell in love with Jodhpur and decided to return to film here. They are coming with a very small unit of around 15 people and will be shooting here for two days. There are no Bollywood actors being cast in the movie. But, local actors and crew members might be roped in. The unit wants to use the beautiful fort as the background for the movie. However, nothing is known yet whether Jodhpur will feature as an Indian city in the movie or not."

The Hollywood team will be coming down from the US and will be touching base in Delhi before flying out to Jaipur and subsequently to Jodhpur.
Good publicity

Rajasthan becomes a B'wood hub

Quote:
The film fraternity is on a cinematic high on India... Or rather, Jaipur, and the whole of Rajasthan. If you wanna see the cameras rolling, you no longer have to go to Mumbai.

And, we are not talking only about Bollywood, but Hollywood movies, too. Guess the filmwallahs are not interested in the Swiss Alps and exotic beaches anymore. They've discovered Jaipur's grandeur and scenic beauty.

The previous year alone, Jaipur played host to at least six movie making teams, cast and crew, et al. There was the team of John Madden's "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" coming to Jaipur for a recee and in mid-November, the entire cast and crew landed in Jaipur for the shoot. After shooting in Udaipur's Khempur Haveli, they shot at almost all the local bazaars and streets of Jaipur like Jalebi Chowk, Tripolia bazaar, Aaatish Market, Brahmpuri, and other places like the airport, railway station and bus-stand. Producer of the movie, Graham Broadbent told us, "The movie is an adaptation of Deborah Moggach's novel "These Foolish Things", which is set in Bangalore, but I chose Jaipur due to its magnificence and splendour." Jaipur is a beautiful city with wonderful colours, and it appeals to the western audience, added the producer.

While the shooting of "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" was going on in full swing, the cast and crew of Lara Dutta's maiden production "Chalo Dilli" landed in Jaipur. Interestingly, though the movie reads "Dilli", it was shot at the Jaipur airport, railway station, and other locations. While Lara Dutta and Vinay Pathak were shooting in the city, even Akshay Kumar flew down to shoot for a cameo in the movie. When you spot Lara trapped at the airport in the movie, and see Akshay in some of the fight scenes in the film, look carefully, it's all Jaipur you see.

While this is all current news, let's go into flashback mode and recount the 1995 Akshay Kumar starrer "Sabse Bada Khiladi" and its song "Bholi Bhali Ladki", which was extensively shot in Jaipur's Birla Mandir. Remember the "Masti Ki Paathshala" song from "Rang De Basanti"? It was shot at the Nahargarh Fort in Jaipur, and after this song, the Nahargarh Fort became the hotspot for all who visited the city. Well, that's what Jaipur does to you, right? When it comes to period films, Jaipur is a sure shot winner.

In 2005, JP Dutta's "Umrao Jaan" was filmed in the City Palace, and in 2007, the shooting of Goldie Behl's "Drona" commenced at the Lalgarh Fort in Bikaner, and moving through Mumbai's Film City to Namibia in Africa, it returned to Jaipur for the climax. Likewise, Indian epic film "Jodha Akbar" was shot at several places in North India including Rajasthan, Agra and Ajmer. Remember the scene in which Aishwarya is cooking for Akbar, she uses the same kadhai which is placed in the Amber Fort. Amber Fort is also pictured during the narration of the movie.

In 2009, Salman Khan starrer "Veer" was shot at the Amber Fort, and though later, there was a controversy as the wall of the fort collapsed during the shoot, director Anil Sharma explains, "Through the film, we planned to showcase the Rajasthani culture and the beauty of the state extensively, and I am sure that helped the state attract more tourists in the future". And then again, "Dilli 6" was set in the walled city of Delhi, but in 2007, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra recreated the Old Delhi locations in Jaipur and shot most of the movie in Sambar, few kilometres from Jaipur. In 2008, Vinay Shukla's "Mirch" was shot briefly at the Panna-Meena Baudi – a place near Amber Fort along with some parts of the movie being shot in Bikaner's Laxmi Palace. Director Vinay Shukla reasons, "From "Mughal-e-Azam" to "Mirch", many films have been shot in Jaipur and it has always been a director's favourite location. Being a historical city, it offered the kind of location I wanted for my film."

Likewise, the heritage hotels have always grabbed eyeballs for their opulent architecture, royal ambience and beautiful landscape. Ashutosh Gowarikar's "What's Your Raashee?" was shot at Shiv Vilas, and we are sure that you remember the shooting as it hogged the limelight because Gerard Butler visited the sets of the film when he was in Jaipur. And it's not only the cultural heritage that is reflected in the movies, but also the politics of the Rajasthan College. For instance, Anurag Kashyap's "Gulaal" delved into the politics of a Rajasthan college, and to project a true picture of ragging and kidnapping, the movie was shot at the Rajasthan University during the election time. Actor Raj Singh Chaudhary told us, "To get a feel, I packed my bags and came to Jaipur during the Rajasthan University union elections. After interacting with the union leaders for days, and staying in the university campus, we shot the experience in a documentary style."

Besides the monuments et al, we surely cannot miss the Rajasthan Polo Ground as that too has been captured in a host of movies. Few years back, the charismatic Karishma Kapur, Lillete Dubey and other actors shot at the polo grounds for the movie "Zubeida". Lillete told us, "I shot for "Zubeida" on the Polo grounds of the Pink City, and ever since, I am in love with its grandeur." Again, "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" was shot at the Rajasthan Polo ground.

Few scenes of the Bollywood film "Rakta Ek Rishta' were also captured at the polo grounds in 2010. In the movie, Bollywood baddie, Gulshan Grover plays the role of a polo player, and scenes of him playing polo were shot at the polo ground in Jaipur. Gulshan Grover explained, "Whenever we think of polo, Jaipur is the first name that comes to everybody's mind". And the director of the movie, Aadi Irani, beamed, "It's only beautiful locations that hold everyone's attention and obviously no other place except Jaipur would be apt to shoot polo playing scenes."

If one would want to thank the people who work behind the camera and work for a movie, then read the rolling credits. After all, it takes an army of people to put a movie in place. But when the cast and crew of a movie come to shoot, it helps boost up the business of a lot of people. One movie means a lot of money to everyone involved – from the line producer, to the location manager, from the production coordinator, to the line manager, from the production assistant, to the equipment hiring people.

"It all depends on the duration of the project. If the movie shoot finishes in 3-4 months, then the total income generated is somewhere close to `20 lakhs. This means that the preparation time for the movie is two months, and the shooting span is ten weeks," said line producer Dilip Rathore. If the shooting is that of a small film, it takes four weeks of preparation time and some seven weeks of shooting, then the movie will generate business worth `10 lakhs for us," says Dilip.

In the last three years, the shootings in Jaipur have increased by almost 50%. And there is a reason for the same.

Dilip shared, "The cost of shooting in Jaipur is far less as compared to Mumbai. People in Mumbai work in unions like there is a union for the cameramen, another union for the artistes, etc. So there, rates are fixed. In Jaipur, however, the location costs which includes the set, construction and raw material are less as Jaipur mein set toh bana-banaya hota hai."

Also, the locations of Mumbai have become so common that people are running to different cities to shoot and Jaipur tops their list for its beautiful heritage locations and monuments." Another film-coordinator, Anil Mehta, who takes care of movie shootings in the state said, "The first two season of the serial "Swayamvar" were projects in crores, therefore, it generated a business of some `25 lakhs."

"When we take a project, we have to deal with transportation, take permission for the shooting location from the Additional District Magistrate (ADM), accommodation in hotels, catering and food, equipment, art department and the like," Mehta explains and adds, "When I took up a French serial shooting in the state which was a project of `22 crores, we did business of `12 lakhs for the catering, `10 lakh for transportation and two lakhs for the local artistes."

Since 2007, added Anil, "The number of people coming to shoot in Rajasthan has increased and in the coming years, it is going to be on a roll."

Also, a lot depends on the location. Informs a source, "If the shooting is at Mehrangarh Fort, then per day cost of the fort is `2.5 lakhs and if the shooting takes place at some regular place, then the per day cost of the flat will be approximately `50,000."
Yay for propaganda through films! Padharo Mhare Des....
