Even Vancouver had a hard time finding enough housing for everyone in 2010, and Sullivan Arena is barely large enough for curling or short track skating let alone ice hockey.

The circus that is the Olympic games has grown far beyond what it was in the 1990's, and places like Lillehammer and Anchorage are no longer capable of hosting.

Sullivan Arena would host Ice Hockey II. Ice Hockey I would need to be in a new arena, as would Figure Skating/Short Track. This is where the multipurpose venue could come in, as it would have the Speed Skating Oval too.

As for Curling, it would be a modified University of Anchorage arena (Alaska Airlines Center). You just remove some lower level seating to accommodate a raised ice sheet, which the refrigeration facilities are run underneath the ice. The capacity would be lowered from 5,000 to say 3,500.

Anchorage boasts a metro population as much as 400,000. That's hardly anything to gawk at. But the main concern is legacy of key venues such as the sliding track and ski jumps, as there are 3 cities which such facilities within a couple hours flying distance.

I definitely think that Innsbruck wouldn't have opposition in case they were to bid.

I still remember when Granada tried to bid for 1998...

Almaty, Kazakhstan?
A Swiss bid?
If Oslo gets their shit together and use more Lillehammer legacy venues, then it would be a strong bid.
A proper Munich bid?

There is opposition!

Two Swiss regions hand in early Winter Olympics bids

Two Swiss regions hand in early Winter Olympics bids

Canton Graubünden handed in a bid on which citizens will have the final say on February 12, 2017. The host city has not yet been named in their proposal.
In addition, a group from cantons Valais, Vaud, Fribourg and Bern submitted a joint proposal named “Sion 2026: the Winter Games in the heart of Switzerland”. As the name implies, the group has proposed Sion in canton Valais as the host city. Competitions would take place in as many as 20 separate locations in an area including Bern, Lausanne, Montreux, Aigle and Sion.
Swiss Olympic, Switzerland’s umbrella organisation for Olympic Games, will decide in March 2017 which of the bids it will put forward to its parliament as an official candidate for the 2026 Games. The parliament will decide in April whether to move forward with the bid, which would then be submitted to the International Olympic Committee.
The total costs for submitting an Olympic bid are around CHF24 million ($23.3 million), which must be shared equally among the host location, federal government and Swiss Olympic.

Just a little curiosity. Stockholm or Helsinki could be the second cities, after Beijing, to have hosted SG and WG

The citizens of Graubunden have voted against a bid for the Olympics.

http://www.insidethegames.biz/articl...-in-referendum

There is a very clear difference between an Olympic Committee wanting to bid and the people of a community or country wanting to bid.

Unlikely. Stockholm is too far away from the mountains, not to mention that they conveniently withdrew their bid well before bid plans were laid out.

Helsinki has no mountains. Their 2006 bid proposed to use the Lillehammer mountains as well as the sliding centre. There have been touted talks of an artificial heightening of Takho Hill, but that is very unlikely.

Switzerland Olympic officials choose city for 2026 Winter Games bid

The Switzerland Olympic Committee says it wants to bid for the 2026 Olympics with the city of Sion. Sion could become the first official 2026 Winter Olympic bid city, should its candidacy be confirmed by Swiss sports officials on April 11.

Switzerland has hosted the Olympics twice, both Winter Games in St. Moritz (1928 and 1948). Sion previously was a finalist to host the 1976, 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics, finishing runner-up in voting every time. Switzerland first announced it was pursuing a bid last March. A possible bid from St. Moritz and Davos was rejected by voters last month.

The 2026 Olympic host city is expected to be chosen from an International Olympic Committee members vote in 2019.

You might want to add ALMATY to that list. They had such a compelling bid for 2022 (and were absolutely robbed by some shady dealings within the IOC in my opinion), that it would be such a shame for them not to have another go.
