With all the expansion of the skyline towards south park this will be a nice counter balance.

Which is to say "demolition is underway for a building that will be making way for a Gehry development".

And no, the Disney is not collapsing into rubble. It was built that way. Intentionally.

Do we know what's planned for the parking lot behind it? I pray I won't have to cry if someone tells me it'll be a 30 feet box...

A nice shot. Toward the upper left it catches DWP and the Dorothy Chandler, two of LA's best midcentury pieces. They show that you can do modern without doing a plain box.

Our Lady (on Grand near the top) doesn't show up well. The Broad is just off the bottom edge.

Then there is the Gehry stretch: the Disney, MOCA/music school and this going up across the street. Then down the hill, across the vacant lot is the Federal Ct. House (the dark cube) and beyond that the deco City Hall.

The vacant lot is the subject speculation. There is significant new work going on on Broadway, Hill and adjacent but I don't know of anything specific for that lot. I wouldn't be optimist for a lot of height given its location near civic center.
