The renovation of the Rizal Memorial Stadium includes the new look of the facade, new rubberized track oval and the newly-installed individual bleacher seats outside the grandstand, making the stadium finally expanded its capacity in accordance to the FIFA and AFC standards. The stadium is set to host men's football tournament during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Well, so much for turning this one into a football-only stadium. Now it's gonna have to apply for historical protection instead.

That site is now historically protected and declared by the National Historical Commission a "National Historical Landmark". That was right after the previous Manila government and the private business group led by Enrique Razon almost convert the RMSC into a mall, condo, and a business hub. But the declaration of the site and also clamors by the heritage advocates and the athletes here to stop the demolition led the Razon group to cancel its plans instead. Thankfully, the national government (through its agency BCDA) has plans to build the new football-specific stadium along with other sports facilities there in the New Clark City (including an indoor arena) as part of the plans of the Philippines' bidding for the 2030 Asian Games and it will start its construction soon after the SEA Games. As of now, only the Athletics Stadium, the Aquatic Center and the Athlete's Village are completed and ready to host its games there on New Clark for the 2019 SEA Games next week. The new sports complex in New Clark will soon become its new national sports training hub and complex after the SEAG is over.
