Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is interested in owning an NFL team and has become close with league owners, including Washington’s Dan Snyder, according to a new report from CBS Sports.

Jason La Canfora reported Sunday that “some believe” Bezos could help the Redskins’ pursuit of a new stadium, as well.

“Perhaps even with an Amazon sponsorship,” La Canfora writes.

The Redskins are in the midst of trying to build a new stadium with FedEx Field’s lease set to expire in 2027. Team president Bruce Allen said over the summer that an announcement for the new venue could come “within a year.” He said the deadline to make a decision is 2022.

Bezos, meanwhile, is moving to the District, according to CBS Sports. The Amazon CEO has strong support from the league’s owners for purchasing a team, though no club is up for sale at the moment. Bezos has reportedly spent “considerable time” with Snyder and others.

I'm not a huge fan of Bezos but he's got the F you money needed to pry the team away from Snyder, otherwise it's another 30 to 40 years of that jabroni and that's just not gonna fly. So bring on lord emperor Bezos.

I don't think Snyder is interested in selling. Bezos may just help him fund a new stadium or learn the basics from Snyder so as to take over one of the teams that's likely to come into play.

More seriously, the NFC East is a disaster at the moment and that's bad because these are among the biggest names, largest markets and best time zone in football. I would guess the NFL is motivated to do something and the right names are being mentioned for something to happen.

It does seem lazy but I trust that the NFL is gonna do something about this. Tbh I've wondered for a while why the ncf 3ast owners, including Jerrah, would be ok with the DC market taking to the point of irrelevancy. I'm sure the nfc east owners love an easy dc win but not at the expense of destroying the lucrative dc market!

Thankfully we're all full of S and will gladly flock back to the team if they ever start to win again. I'm very, very proud of dc being a Caps town but they'll pick up the Redskins again at the first sight that they may be good. I hope!

Both the Bullets and Capitals played at the Capital Centre/USAir Arena in Landover Maryland (just across Landover Road from where FedEx field is now) from 1974 to 1997.

The switch happened literally the same year. The Bullets and Capitals moved to MCI Center (Later Verizon Center, now Capital One Arena) downtown (also the same year the Bullets changed their name to the Wizards) and the Redskins left RFK to move to Jack Kent Cooke Stadium (Now FedEx Field) in Landover.

Edit: Infact the name change is even more parallel as Pollin wanted to remove the violent connotations of the "Bullets" name because they were moving back to the District at a time when DC was seeing something of a violent crime wave.

I was mostly joking on that, but... it IS a racially based term that has been used as a pejorative at certain points in history...

The debate is over just how much offensive weight it carries these days... (Which, yes, there are plenty of people including many American Indians that don't give much of a sh**, but that's very definitely NOT universal in either case), and also whether or not that's enough to justify sacrificing 80 years of tradition for the team, and whether that is enough to be an impediment to them moving back to the District.

You can declare it "not racist" all you want, but to pretend there's no debate over the term or whether it could keep them from moving to the district is as foolish as declaring the Bullets and Caps never played in Landover...

90's were all about urban renewal. New hockey arena in downtown DC fit the bill.
