I had no idea that the 3tier stands were built in 2000. It looks like they were built in 1950.

So most of the stadium is relatively new......btw, it would have been better if a roof covering the entire stadium could be installed.....

I think part of that is because the seats look in such a dreadful state. 16 years of being baked in the sun does that, and perhaps being cleaned one every few years best, it seems.

One thing I've found going to games abroad at uncovered stadiums is that people take newspapers along - not to read, but to place on the seats to stop the dirt getting onto their clothes.

That said, the grounds I've been to in Spain seem to take no-frills to the extreme. At Sevilla's ground, across the city, the bins on the concourse were old oil drums, and the ground seemed to have been put together just loosely enough for black streaks to run down and stain all the walls.

Not only for the rain (okey, Sevilla is not Bilbao or A Coruña and rarelly rains there), it's also to avoid the sun and the heavy hot of Sevilla.

"la lluvia en Sevilla, es una maravilla"

True, the stadium appears neglected to be rrelatively "new". But Betis, despite of having thousands of fans, is a club stagnant, a victim of populism, who hasn´t the luck and sport planning that Sevilla FC.

In normal conditions, Betis and Sevilla should be evenly matched.

A roof is planned but it will only be built after the main stand is replaced. New main stand and roof would cost the club maybe 50-60 million so unless the club can manage to stay in the 1 division for many years to come, there will be no funding.

Good question.....it is usually not rainy there (even the picture from Sanchez Pizjuan is the exact opposite), but other stadiums also have a roof ,even if it doesn't rain in the places where they are......

Well this may or may not be true, however, when comparing both clubs they tend to have similar number of paying members, similar average attendance, similar number of fan clubs etc.

You can also compare how much TV attendance both teams draw and there to they are very similar, so if Betis really has more fans, they doesn't seem to be very useful at all to the club itself, it they have so many more fans, the club should sell more merchandise, but the fact is is doesn't.

Counting fans is a tricky thing, it we were to believe the claims of all teams in la liga, Spain would need to have a population of something like 100 million just to account for all the claimed fans, Barcelona and Madrid alone claim to have 30 million fans in Spain, which of cause is complete bogus.

The historical difference between Betis and Sevilla is called Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, Monchi.

I still find it unbelievable that they are actualy finishing this stadium. Stadium wise I like that, though I had a weak point for that ´little´stand, but it´s not that they realy need the extra cap is it?
