WASHINGTON, D.C. - Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium (46,000)

I read on Wikipedia that they plan to tear down the RFK Stadium to build a domed structure.
I sure hope they wont.

It would be awesome if the Redskins relocated there and they'd revamp it to a 100 000 + stadium. Then it could also be used as the World Cup Final when the US get's the tournament.

Of course it should also become US Soccer's national stadium.

A doomed structure doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

I cant think of a good reason? The weather is great in DC, why would you want to do something like that...

I think the word you were looking for is domed.

Doom (Doomed)

1. fate or destiny, esp. adverse fate; unavoidable ill fortune: In exile and poverty, he met his doom.
2. ruin; death: to fall to one's doom.
3. a judgment, decision, or sentence, esp. an unfavorable one: The judge pronounced the defendant's doom.
4. the Last Judgment, at the end of the world.
5. Obsolete. a statute, enactment, or legal judgment.

You cannot "revamp" RFK, its in terrible shape. The only logical thing to do would be to tear it down and rebuild. A new stadium makes a lot of sense...you can host the Super Bowl, the Final Four, and other indoor activities you couldnt have before.

Also, when you read "domed structure", that actually means retractable roof.

As big of a shithole as it is, I love RFK. When the upper deck starts bouncing you feel like your gonna collapse down onto the lower bowl. Then there's the bouncing stand along the side line. The game I was at had only 26,000 but the place was rocking like there's no tomorrow.

Ok, but they have to keep the name and design the new structure in some resembelance to the old.

It would be kind of cool if they did it with tracks that could be covered (like Stade de France) and applied dor the olympics. Washington Olympics.

Well, perhaps not.

Ah, I thought it was with a closed roof. Then it's okay I suppose.

Only reason there might be a dome is that Snyder's got $$$ in his eyes and sees the Super Bowl and World Cup coming there.

RFK is actually nothing like any other cookie cutter. And it was designed in the 50s.

Tear it down and build for DCU. The Rednecks can stay in the suburbs.

In a new RFK, besides using the same seating colour sceme, they should design part of the tiers with suspention so that they can move up and down when the crowd gets going like the current RFK, Bloody Awsome that WE WANT DALLAS footage.

That is an awesome video! I highly doubt they build something like that again intentionally though. The reason the stands bounced is b/c they were in the lower section that they could move from the third base side in baseball, to the opposite sideline seats for football or soccer. The thing is literally on big inflatable tires. Here is a picture of the gap that is left when they move it out for soccer seating.

Although, they built the new Mile High stadium upper deck with aluminum seating specifically so the fans could recreate the old "Mile High Thunder" the original stadium was known for, so you never know.

Qualcomm in San Diego has a similar scenario. It would be a holdover from the 60s.
