SANTA CLARA — The city of Santa Clara is seeking to end their management agreement with the San Francisco 49ers for managing and operating non-football events at Levi’s Stadium, citing several lawsuits initiated by the team, more than $85,000 in wages that contract workers weren’t correctly paid, and an inability to monitor or audit stadium spending because the team won’t hand over key documents.

The city council Tuesday voted 6-0, with council member Patricia Mahan absent from the meeting, to initiate legal proceedings to terminate the team’s management agreement. That action would not affect National Football League activities, said city attorney Brian Doyle

This is a local squabble that started when the NIMBY faction took over. The city and local hotels have made money but the politicos had promised even more so they turned personal in attacking the Niners. They invent endless complaints that they were cheated, bad accounting, bad management, etc.

Personally I am an LA fan but this is just Santa Clara acting like 2-year olds and complaining about traffic, noise, etc., as if that wasn't already known when the city council and local electorate voted overwhelmingly in favor of the stadium. That's why it was put right next to an amusement park, convention center and proposed "downtown" development.

Made a trip out to San Francisco last week and had a chance to catch the Monday Night game vs the Browns at Levi's. Had a great time and thought the facility was great. Thought I would share a photo or two.

Has Levi's hosted concerts? A quick Google search produced no results and I wonder if the imbalanced layout of the venue makes it less than conducive to such.

Seems to have hosted a good few including Coldplay, Grateful Dead, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Kenny Chesney etc.

Many, many. It is in huge demand for concerts BUT the City of Santa Clara tries to limit the number and imposes an early curfew so as to try to get a higher cut of the revenues. It's a standing joke for performers to play late and say "f Santa Clara".

My wife goes regularly to Levi's and the other main Bay Area venues and has never complained about sound quality.

When an act plays multiple venues in the Bay Area, Levi's is the place of choice for her and her East Bay friends (she went to Cal) since it has reasonably priced quality hotels within easy walking distance, good rail connection and is in a very safe 'hood.

For those coming from the Central Valley or Monterey/Salinas areas it is far more convenient and cheaper than driving into SF with its crowds and difficulty parking.

This was the Taylor Swift show a year or so ago that I grabbed off of Twitter. In this shot Taylor was in front of the sea monster on the left. As you can see, Levi's isn't really "unbalanced" until you get above the second tier.

The San Francisco 49ers and city of Santa Clara are in the midst of another legal battle this week, this time over whether the city had the authority to revoke the NFL team’s right to make purchases at Levi’s Stadium.

Santa Clara officials, acting as the city’s Stadium Authority Board, this year effectively revoked the 49ers’ ability to make purchases for the stadium, citing concerns about transparency and whether contractors were being paid the correct rates according to state law.

But the football team has maintained the city doesn’t have the right to change the terms of its contract unilaterally. City officials, meanwhile, insist they have the authority to oversee purchases and contracts before they are finalized. This week, the San Francisco 49ers decided to put the debate to rest and filed a demand for arbitration on the matter, according to City Attorney Brian Doyle.

In response to Doyle’s announcement that the city was heading to arbitration, Mayor Lisa Gillmor didn’t dwell, pausing only to say “alright, that’s unfortunate.”

It appears that the city of Santa Clara is in the wrong, here. Especially telling is the above comment. Anyways, go Niners!!!

I'm an LA fan and wish nothing but bad on the Niners.

But there's no doubt they are in the right. Santa Clara agreed to get into this deal and the electorate approved it. Then a new administration came along and decided they wanted more money and control out of the deal and have been trying to get it changed ever since, mostly through petty nuisances like this.

The city has had a windfall of money at no cost to them except adding parking (which is 90 percent used for the adjacent convention center) and the local hotels VOTED TO TAX THEMSELVES to fund that.

Now there are various developments around the stadium including a HUGE one by Related, who is also doing Hudson Yards in NY and the Grand Ave. Gehry project in LA; and half a dozen others in the area.
