Great news......They are going to leave some space in the center of this highway for construction of metro line in future, so by the end of 2023 Dholera will be connected by an express highway, metro and hopefully an airport

I was wondering what will be the nature and alignment of the metro-link to DIA and DSIR once it reaches Ahmedabad's southern outskirts. Assuming the metro will run parallel to the u/c Expressway throughout its alignment, these are the options that I would consider for its alignment within Ahmedabad:

I would bear in mind these aspects when considering the options:
i) the metro's primary aim is to serve the new international airport which is 80 kms away, in this respect it should be easily accessible;
ii) obviously, it has to be well connected to the existing and upcoming inter- and intra-city public transport network;
iii) this link shall be part of a greater network connecting Dholera and the international airport with Ahmedabad, GIFT city, Gandhinagar, and even Mumbai via the HSR, easy transfer between all these modes shall have to be kept in mind


Alignment 1 (20 kms): SPRR (Chainage 0 of the expressway, slightly left to Bakrol circle) - follow the canal to the southern end of the riverfront - then follow the west river drive (elevated/underground whichever is feasible) - leave riverfront at Gandhi Ashram and terminate at HSR terminal in proximity to AEC metro station on N-S line

Probable Stations:
Station 1 - Near Gyaspur Metro depot on the 132 ft inner ring road
Station 2 - NID Paldi off Ambedkar Bridge
Station 3 - Off Gandhi Bridge, close to OHC metro interchange
Station 4 - Next to HSR terminal, close to AEC metro station



Alignment 2 (23 kms): SPRR (Chainage 0 of the expressway, slightly left to Bakrol circle) - traverse through fields and join NH 147 - along SG Road - turn to Saurashtra railway line - along the railway line - terminate at HSR terminal in proximity to Sabarmati metro station on N-S line

Probable Stations:
Station 1 - Just south of Anandnagar Road, at the intersection of KC Road and Corporate Road
Station 2 - Thaltej crossroads, with connection to Thaltej metro station
Station 3 - Next to Sabarmati South station, with connectivity to Sabarmati metro station

Station distances are of course greater than a regular metro since I assume the metro will run at around 2x the speed of normal urban metros (similar to Delhi's Airport Express).

I'd prefer Alignment 1 since it offers higher public transit accessibility and is centrally located, though its tougher to construct. Alignment 2, though off-center, provides connectivity to the affluent neighbouroods and business districts which are expected to have the majority of air travelers, especially international.

Connecting the HSR terminal seems crucial at this juncture, especially when it is being planned as a mega-transit hub with HSR, suburban rail, metro-rail, BRT, and Indian railways. The Airport Metro will be feather in its cap.
