Is there a good chance we will see a start on construction in the new year?

Apologies for the bump.
I had a chance look today inside one of the buildings that's due to bite the bullet

Estates Gazette reporting this project is starting next month.
£45 million project- 530 beds
So much student development around here.
Just hope we get to a tipping point for some viable commercial element to give the area some character.

Thats £85,000 per Bed.

Pretty expensive build costs on the face of it.

Especially when you think the Radisson cost £80million to build. (albeit in 2004)

I was walking down Jennens Road last Saturday afternoon and I felt like a cuppa so I called into the Coffee House by Subway but it was closed. I spoke to the guys in Subway and they said that they thought it was closed until the students come back in September.

This is what worries me about this area. It`s becoming solely a student area. A new build Selly Oak so to speak.

You could always pop into Costa on Aston Street. Pretty sure that they are open during the summer holidays!

Just cross over Jennens Road and go past the elevated football pitch through the Aston University park grounds and head onto Aston Street. (It is next to Tesco Express).

Cheers ell. It was you that told me about the place on Jennens Road last year. And the one in Millenium Point.

Yep, I know where the Tesco Express is. I`ll bear it in mind.

I think it's quieter now while all the students are on holiday!

Maybe in the distant future one will open somewhere at Eastside Locks.

(Is this even the right thread?)

Actually reminds me of another TP Bennett building in London

If you turn right down Ingestre Place, you'll also find Albany House 2.0

Here's the link: http://www.birminghampost.co.uk/busi...start-11699039

I quite like this;a good size for the corner plot and it will be interesting to see how it interacts with the canal.Again, some kind of ground floor retail would be welcomed.

Needs other residential as well as the student homes. The area will be empty from June to September. Hopefully, private developers will start to look more at the area as the student homes go up.

That bugs me "empty from June to September". I disagree. Maybe when this is up and running then we'll see the proof in the pudding. It could well turn out to be quieter but it'll still attract more footfall than it does to this day. Students do and will take up the opportunity to stay in Uni accommodation over the summer months at reduced rates. I know I did when I studied in Southampton, as well as hundreds of others

This is true, for me i think the transient nature of the population is more the point rather than the numbers.
