It's not prime really as it is on a uni campus. What would happen if they freed up space for further development is that they would to some degree stunt their future growth as a university.

And nobody argued we needed variety when the last proposal was approved.
I think the growth of the university is something people forget when looking at the campus. They have re-designed there land to accommodate their next decade or more of growth adding new faculties such as medicine and expanding research.

Both Birmingham and City Uni's are doing the same thing. Even though the architecture may not be as great with the new Aston Uni halls, they allowed the uni to become much more attractive by providing for all 1st yr intake on campus in university owned halls. This is a major step.

Hope you're not suggesting knocking down all the Science Park offices for student accommodation!

Logically i could see that being a step for the university in the future. They already have the academy school next door.

It would be interesting to see where BCU would expand to as they left their campus at Perry Barr to to come a significantly restrained land holding.

According to the Birmingham Post, this has now passed planning.

We need BelfastUniGuy to amend the title because the heights are wrong.

According to The Birmingham Post, the restaurant at the top of the new Park Regis Hotel is the highest in Birmingham. They have a habit of getting the detail completely wrong!

So with phase 1 and 2 are we looking at 5 buildings in total here?

Yep. If phase two remains unchanged, then we will have five buildings but hopefully it will be changed to accomodate a 32 storey tower instead.

It's probably about right as the McLaren building is 69 metres tall.... it always seems much taller than this somehow.

Will the 27 storey building be visible at the top end of Corporation Street in the view below?

It stands to the side of the McLaren building, slightly further away to the North, so may just be visible from the Bull Street junction.

No is the answer, or only just visible. Until Martineau galleries is redeveloped anyway.
