Lufthansa has selected RR for the engines of their 787 order.

That pic of the three 789s must be a hint of what's to come. Would of been nice to see a teaser of Condor as well.

I'm interesting to see the allocation. I would say Lufthansa will get all or none of the 787-9. With Lufthansa's size, I doubt less than 20 of a type would really make sense.

Looking at the capacity of the planes they will replace, the a350-900 seems a better fit for Lufthansa and the 787-9 is for the smaller carriers, including the low-cost ones.

If I remember correctly, the Luthansa group will soon (with the introduction of the next business class product) be using the same seats across all the full service carriers. I believe that will give them the flexibilty to even move aircraft from one carrier to another easily.

If they want to replace the A343s with much larger planes then the A350 would be the perfect fit. If they want to replace them with similar sized planes then the 787 is the aircraft to go to.

This will most likely not be LHs final order for the 787. There no reason to believe that it wont fly for LH.

Is there any particular reason for the wikipedia page on Lufthansa to be showing the A359s as replacement for A346 aircraft and the 789s as replacement for A343 aircraft?

These latest orders are meant to replace all 4-engined aircraft, so 747s and A340s.

Too bad. I actually hoped they would order A330neo as their A330 replacement instead of 787-9. This would have offered way more savings across the group (as currently LH, LX, and EW/SN operate them).

The 787-9 would however be a perfect choice to replace the aeging 767's at Austrian, which are in dire need of replacement.
