Part of the delicate balance is effecting change without pissing off the long-standing residents.

A damn hard task. Luckily though, there seems to be somewhat of a desire for change. Not like ******* Fremantle, where every little thing is debated upon until obscurity.

Speaking of Fremantle, Notre Dame Uni are constructing a new building on the corner of Cliff & Croke Sts:

Awesome! I'm meeting up with a mate in Freo tomorrow to see A Serious Man, so I'm definitely making a detour so as to see this. Very nice looking building, if the render is true to form.

While I can't see where, Freo will definitely have to allow a parking structure to be created somewhere over there. It's already a mess trying to find parking there, and with this, it's just going to get worse.

8th Ave Fruit & Veg, the Indian supermarket and a general asian grocery (all on the west side of the street) are all open 7.30-8.00pm. I don't know about the one near the record store. Yes i wish too that there were more eateries open later.

Maybe they were investors that bought them early on then? It looks like the building is nearly finished though, interesting to see...

You must live nearby too then?

I've seen both. I believe the one in Rossmoyne is for a school building.

Took a bit of a wander at about 9:30pm last night to hunt some food - only Rifos and Leos were open on the avenue. One of the things that pisses me off about Perth is that virtually no proper food outlet is open past 8 or 9; you're struggling to even get a coffee. Hopefully the influx of latte-sippers in Maymont leads to longer trading hours.

Ah yes, many times I was in the CBD wanting a coffee, pissed off that all the good cafes closed at 4pm.

How is Cockburn Central going these days? I remember there was an apartment tower planned but haven't heard much about it in a while. Is that still going ahead?

The area between Pier St and Barrack St has a couple of places open reasonably late, though food-wise it's not that special...

Coffee is well catered for, if you like it asian style, from a can. mmmm coffee in a can...

I'm looking forward to the point where that whole Cockburn Central hub is nicely built up. Not shocked at all that the 17 storey one was put on hold, it seemed way too ambitious for the area.

I heard a rumor from a mate in who works for the Govt (I'm being deliberately obtuse) that there's talk of build a mid-range apartment block behind Gateways (that area of land between the mall and the road with the aged care facility and three story units). Only problem is they're thinking of making it Homeswest, which would just be asking for trouble.

yeah that's the stellar complex. Tbor lives in there i think. There will be 4 x 12 st apartments, 4 x 8 st and numerous low rise buildings. The public housing block will be built on the corner i think. There's 20,000 people on the waiting list for public housing. Building more in higher density is a good thing.
