I'm not going to bump the thread with this news but I've just spotted an engineering rig of some sorts on the Beorma Quarter tower site.

At first glance I thought it was a piling rig but it was smaller and the vans said Geotechnical Engineering so I am guessing this is pre-construction stage testing rig to assess the ground conditions .

Nothing to prove it's not actual construction as I'm no expert but I doubt it was more than that. It could however suggest this is moving forward a bit further towards an actual start ..well maybe!

Apparently Boris' words were so powerful that they lead to actual work commencing at Beorma.

Can confirm as I walked past this morning: stuff is still actually going on.

Complete miracle if they do something. Let's hope it's not another four metre square of tarmac.

I feel like a broken record saying this, but if BVSC are still occupying the building don’t get too excited! That building needs to be demolished before anything can go ahead, but it’s still great to see something happening, whatever it could be.

It's a small rotary drilling rig. I wouldn't get too excited. Its ground investigation for who knows what.

The only positive is they are logging core which suggests to me that its something to do with pile design.

As in the design of the piled foundation. It is a guess, but seems an expensive exercise to retrieve core and log it if you weren't interested in the information, as you can use these rigs in another way which is much quicker and therefore cheaper if you didn't need to look at the core sample.

Probably just to see how far down they need to lay the foundations for the car park that'll eventually turn up here. There's about to be hundreds of workers turning up nearby to build the HS2 station, they'll need somewhere to park.

Much better not to get your hopes up, the ecstasy when things go your way unexpectedly is so much better than the disappointment when you're expecting more.

Make a perfect Blues me.
