In the process of making a thread for that section showcasing all the projects around Adelaide, including the medical precinct. Every other city has one, and Adelaide deserves one with all the construction taking place right now.

I'm back in Sydney after my stay in the city this week. Quite impressed with the weather which delivered a little more than I thought.

Plenty of good photos plus some construction updates. Watch out.

with Victoria Square, Rundle Mall, river Torrens looking like warzones atm we may not look very nice at all right now so I wouldn't blame him if he didnt think much of our city.

Cant wait for everything to be done and completed, and I look forward to the day when we dont have to shut down train lines for years at a time just to upgrade them. Its gretting really painful and its not helping the fact we are now the most car dominated city in Oz and the car dominance is getting worse, in contrast to virtually every other western city in the world which is reducing car dependency.

True, but there's a lot of other stuff as well. Victoria square was pretty shit before anways!

And crawf, are you any closer to making a thread for the developments run-down?

i reckon once the hospital gets out of the ground, the sa section might liven up a bit.

they've got big concrete beams up at regency tafe at the moment, building the new section... there's so much space/room for development on that site. I'm thinking what the did at brisbanes south bank with their tafe site - integrated student accom etc, it's really lively.

I definately wont say it was bad and it was just bad timing that I chose to visit when parts of the city are construction zones. I will admit the cranes and fenced off areas tell me a good thing; Adelaide is building and/or making the city better.

I have to admit the city has alot more potential than some think. I find the CBD to be incredibly underdeveloped. Yes the planners need to remove their conservative 20th century attitudes and allow some highrise in the city.

The SA section won't liven up unless people post on S-A AND here But yes, I can't wait for the initial results for the competition

there are plans to revitalise the Parade at Norwood. They want to boost trade in local businesses by 50 % over the next 13 years. One of the aims is to allow 4-7 level apartment buildings.

However the Norwood Residents Association thinks its a bad idea and as we know, NIMBY groups like them are keeping the community back from progressing. Even the extra people to events is bad when really the community wins from their presence.

Ha, I used to live in that council. About 2 years ago they rang out of the blue for a survey. When they asked what I would like to see more of, I said of having taller and higher density housing in Kent Town and along The Parade. I said Im probably the only person wanting this but the operator said, no surprisingly a lot of people have said this also.

Ah the silly vocal minority NIMBY's, and the fact that the Adelaide media will go out of their way to find opposition to anything in order to make a story

And its those NIMBY's that keep the city back from moving with the times.

Meanwhile city drivers are facing challenges around Victoria Square as works continue. Not even an advertising blitz could avoid it.

Lets get some discussion going in that thread as well.

New Adelaide!!!!! Australia's best skyline

This thread will share ideas for a new adelaide to be built in north Adelaide. Would love to hear people's opinions for this idea and any building visions anyone has for the site.

(This is a vision and I would like to hear what people have to say about this idea. Whether the people of Adelaide are happy for a new height skyline which will stand next to our current one)

I feel north Adelaide is a wonderful site for a new city and the skyline will be viewable from the current site of adelaide. This idea of a second city centre allows work to be built at one without disturbing the other city.

Attractions of this site would be a new market place, Little Italy and Mini Middle East, an observation wheel along the river (the oval side), a few rides and restaurants also along the river, 4 towers rising between 150-180m with one having an observation deck which will overlook the new and current cities of Adelaide. It will also have a clear view of Mt Lofty, adelaide oval, Glenelg and Port adelaide.
