Luton Town

Quote:
Clock to start ticking on challenge period for Luton’s new stadium

The legal document has been signed which will trigger a crucial six-week period in the future of Luton Town’s Power Court and Newlands Park schemes.

Hatters chief executive Gary Sweet said in an interview with BBC Look East last night, that the clocks start ticking in “a day or two” after the club and Luton Council signed off the section 106 agreement.

This confirms the planning obligations for the schemes that include a new 17,500-seat football stadium and 1,800-capacity music venue at Power Court and office space, leisure, entertainment and high-end retail at Newlands Park, by junction 10 of the M1.

The six-week period now allows for objectors to seek a judicial review, despite the schemes getting planning permission from the council earlier this year, and the Secretary of State giving his approval.

GMI lands role on Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park

Scarborough International has confirmed GMI Construction as part of its team to expand the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.

The developer said its project team on the Lower Don Valley site includes GMI, Whittam Cox Architects, Arup, Ares Landscape Architects, Burnley Wilson Fish and Zerum.

The first new building at the 70 acre site will be the £6m Community Stadium where construction is due to start in December.

Works will include a 4,141 sq m mixed use office and commercial building alongside an initial phase of 750 spectator seats.

Permission has been granted for a capacity of up to 3,921 spectators in the completed stadium which will be home to Sheffield United Women.

Hard to believe Scarborough holdings will build that stadium- Scarborough holdings is owned by Kevin McCabe who has just lost his high court battle with Prince Abdulla and has been forced out of Sheffield United.

I honestly dont know. It was supposed to be Sheffield Eagles stadium, but that fell through, then McCabe basically said he would build it for the ladies and that the Eagles would rent and play there.

Building should have started in April, but was delayed as McCabe and HRH Prince Abdulla of Saudi Arabia battled for the club at high court.

McCabe has just lost his share in United, so it would be massivley altruistic to foot a £5 million bill on behalf of the club - ironically he only got £5million and 1 pounds for his share of the club in the high court ruling.

AFC Wimbledon

It might not look much, but the photo above is definitely one for the album: the embryonic moment when our new home in Plough Lane actually started to take shape.

With all the foundations and groundwork completed, work finally began this week on the steel framework for our main showpiece West Stand.

This is the stand-out one - the stand with the visibly-stunning glass wall of executive boxes, conference and banqueting facilities - and, best of all, unique fans' zone.

Not really, as they're renovating an existing stand on a limited budget.

Limited budget or not, the roof is a balls up. It could have been so much better for not much extra money but instead the corporate's win again.

At this point, phase 2 looks highly unlikely to ever happen.
