Nat West Tower is actually a really interesting and well designed tower, I think the colour and the fact it was un cared for is what people see. It is a shame the building will be demolished in my opinion. Although, it's one of those buildings where some days I look at and think how much I like the design, but other days I can walk past and think it really represents an ugly side to the city's 70s architecture. I don't think I will miss it hugely, and future generations won't really be too bothered. It has architectural merrit but most 60s and 70s UK towers just do not seem to be very endearing. I personally prefer glass to concrete, concrete cladding seems so overbearing and oppressive, like giant tombstones whereas glass is more transparent and doesn't hide the people/light/activity inside away quite so much. I agree the side facing Vic Square needs more thought, I would prefer stepped on that side too and the space lost added in overall height which I am sure would not be difficult to do, as it is it looks a bit too stark from that angle, other angles look good to me though.

Anyway finally a 100+ metre tower looking likely to go up so great news, we really need that 150+ metre skyscraper now. Wolfman, great render, can you add the other proposed towers to that view.

Strange how the floors aren't level in this render on the side.

Isn't the footprint of the building stepping back and causing an optical illusion?

Ah. Didn't realise the sections were set back.

Shame it's not like that on the other side.

agreeds... everyone seems to forget the original 103 proposal which was approved has almost a blank elevation on the side of the town hall as it was to be used for the core.... yet everyone seemed happy with that!

I accept the scheme needs some refinements, but I still think people are being a little unforgiving especially given what was proposed and approved before!!!

Would like to see a "Night time" render, will this have red aircraft warning lights on the top as it will be on higher ground and as someone said, looking from the east, will look as tall as Beetham tower ?????

I haven't got around to it yet but I seriously think emailing hollywood monster or one of the big advertising companies could get it moving

The more people who bring it to the attention the more chance of it happening

It's the kind of thing Birmingham Mail are good at getting people talking about.

Demolition refused on 6-5 vote - they want a guarantee there'll be a planning app for new tower with it.

Smart idea, yes.. Right decision, not sure. Will this delay things now?

I can understand why they'd do that. We don't need any more empty plots in town.

So is this going to be resubmitted in May with the app for the tower? That will delay things a bit.
