I suppose the covered street as been dropped, personally thought it was excellent. Lets just hope its not too "dumbed down" and gets through planning this time allowing gets this area to be tidied up.

Totally disagree with the demolition here. The original architects of the built section expected it to be facaded and it could still be. If the site were derelict this would be an okay plan but there should be more effort into preservation. Pressure on space could be alleviated by reducing the space for the car park. It is a city centre site and construction should be based around reducing the reliance on cars in the city.

Shame the canopy has been removed. Really liked that idea. New plans look decent though.

That looks pretty good. It reminds me of another building but I can't remember what it is

Good solid building, quite consistent with the surrounding.
Too bad that the most interesting feature, the canopy, is not present anymore.

University College Birmingham has invited bids for phase two of the redevelopment of its site within the Jewellery Quarter.

University College Birmingham phase 2 scheme in the Jewellery Quarter
The £25m building project at Charlotte Street and George Street forms phase two of UCB’s £90m campus redevelopment, which has already seen a new facility, McIntyre House, opened at the site.

The next element will comprise almost 250,000 sq ft of lecture rooms, a restaurant and sports hall alongside a new 248-space multi-storey car park.

This will require partial demolition of 9 Charlotte Street and 12 George Street, better known as the former home of printer James Cond.

Birmingham practice Glenn Howells Architects designed the project, which achieved planning last week.

UCB will hold a bidders day on Wednesday 14 June at 3pm at UCB. To register email Mace, which is handling the procurement competition.

The Phase 2 development scheme is required to be completed by July 2019.

Kier wins £29m Birmingham Uni Jewellery Quarter job

The firm secured the project with a £29m bid agains Farrans Construction and McLaughlin & Harvey.

Named in honour of Nigel Moss, long-serving Chancellor of the University Corporation, Moss House is part of UCB’s strategic £100m capital expansion in the heart of the city.

The new building, underpinned by the latest technology, follows construction of the neighbouring £26m McIntyre House, which opened in 2014.

The new 250,000 sq ft building will contain lecture rooms, a restaurant and a sports hall alongside a new 248-space multi-storey car park.

Demolition specialist Coleman and Co is clearing existing site buildings at 9 Charlotte Street and 12 George Street, better known as the former home of printer James Cond

Architect Glen Howells designed the four-storey, red brick buildings, which celebrates the surrounding warehouses in the area. Consultant Couch Perry Wilkes is responsible for MEP design, with Mace on board as project manager.

The Phase 2 development scheme is required to be completed by July 2019.

Any news on the Camden House site PB? The DA says it's UCB owned but leased out to HSBC. Will they be moving to 1 Centenary Square?

Nah, I don't think there's any intention to merge ops under the 1 roof and there probably never was. I think a select few people will move, but not all. It's a shame the gateway into a lovely street is dominated by it

Probably needs highlighting in the Prominent Inner City thread too. MCR forumers highlight theirs, however big, however small, why not us? You know MCR folk (VDB) would be all over it & would be ramming the page with images of this development

Ok PB! You'd think it'll go in the medium term, maybe five to ten years though? Hopefully then we can have a better gateway to the city with something at maybe eight floors (I can't see anything more than that but hopefully wrong!)

I think there was an image that SMUK mentioned (he's now deleted) not too long back where it showed indicatively how the site could look if it followed the current street fabric, so you would maybe expect something to materalise here. HSBC's lease expires in 2019 too I believe.
