Yes tell us A-brain...any idea when the testing is going to be done and the lights switched on as a permanent fixture?
Hopefully before Xmas!

I’m surprised that 101 Collins Street hasn’t yet drawn his ire!

The lighting display at that address is more akin to that emblazoned across the Melbourne Wheel, than the subtle light-sabre effect of Aurora’s neons (LED’s).

Hahah patience young padawan !!

They’re still sharing the BMU to fix and finish and detail the facade .. me thinks when all is said and done there will be some sort of opening ceremony with the developers etc and all will be revealed !!

Either way almost bet my bucks there will be an Xmas / NYE show ..

LOL...I knew you'd be useful A-brain.
And yes I am young at heart, but 40's are constant reminder that the body is not keeping up with my mindset somehow...ahh well, c'est la vie, as French say!
Thanks for your insightful info buddy!

I think this is the first time they are cleaning the building since the crane came down and it is a HUGE difference. It looks like they may have to do this a couple of times a year judging by all the building grime around us.

With Owners like A-Brain (and his many guests) ogling the stupendously awe-inspiring views, they may need to clean the glass internally as well, particularly the incessant ‘dribble’ marks!

Here is a light test they did on the 4th September this year. They have done a couple since then and always different. This is a video so it will open in Flickr if you click on it.

Hey, Mr kiwi fruit, thanks for the shots. Are all the close ups of swarthy window cleaners staying in the personal files?

Hey redden, I would love to say, but in light of the recent events in this forum some joker may report me to the authorities for sexual abuse towards window cleaners. Let’s just say I used a long lens and multiple shots were taken. From my vantage point there was a lot of rubbing and clean up was quick and efficient.

Classic example of a nice tower with a complete arse of a podium. It's the most anonymous, afterthought, square glass box you could find with absolutely zilch street level amenity. So great if you're looking up - 2% of the time. But for the rest of us it's just an absolute soul sucking waste of space. And with the blank walls of Melbourne Central on the other side of the street, this part of La Trobe really is a void.

But I guess it's tall so cannot be faulted.

Well its pretty hard to tell at the moment as the entire streetscape east of Aurora is closed off for the Metro Tunnel - You cannot walk out of Aurora and turn left you have to go right. That part of the street is a mess.

Melbourne Central has started activating the La Trobe street side with shops now opening up onto the street and the ELLA (Elizabeth and LA Trobe) section now complete and open. The problem that is an amazingly wide road. It has a tram stop right there with a fence blocking off access straight across the road. The lane way connection from La Trobe to Little LA Trobe is not open as yet either.. It’s early days.

Apart from that the exterior sides of the Podium are offices and the car parks have been compacted in between the offices in the middle of the podium giving the offices the view to the street so actually a lot of thought has gone into the design of the podium.

Yeah it isn't the best podium... but remember what it replaced. A shithouse, dingy carpark + ~3 forever abandoned/locked up shops.

At least people will be walking in an out to get to the station or foodcourts below.
