Why the restructuring is not a good idea, according to Inter and Milan.

***

New Stadium at San Siro neighborhood?

POPULOUS proposal: It is inspired by the iconic Duomo and the Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery and "would play a lot on lights and glass spires, allowing different colours depending on the team involved". The concept is that of a "Cathedral of football" with galleries around the central body whose arches recall the two masterpieces of Piazza Duomo.

PROGETTO CMR-MANICA proposal: Two huge rings that cross, to symbolise the coexistence of the two clubs in the same house. Part of the facade could be dedicated to the fans, with the possibility of inserting names and perhaps photos on the "bricks" of the plant.

Both designs include towers, buildings, park and pedestrian area around the stadium. The new stadium would be more close to the existing subway stop.

Total investment amounts to over 1.2 billion euros.

Design proposals, however, should be unveiled on September 24.

Salvini, San Siro must be saved. 'It is clear that a new stadium is needed , but let us safeguard the historic one'

Have the Italian FA take it over ala Wembley? Italy's National Stadium?

This could be one of the latest derbies at the Meazza.
AC Milan 0 - FC Inter Milan 2 (September 22, 2019).

Why are those middle sections blocked on the 3er tier?

Great photos BTW.

this stadium would easily be great with some vip areas on that third tier, uniform color of brand new seats, and smoother seating around the pitch. less fences, glassed areas, etc

A study conducted by the Polytechnic University of Milan on behalf of the Milan city council has shown that it is possible for San Siro to be renovated although it would be very complicated, according to a report from Calcio e Finanza.

Inter and AC Milan have presented plans to build a new state-of-the-art stadium to replace San Siro but have faced fierce competition from residents in the area as well as local councillors, many of whom have insisted they would rather see the clubs remain at San Siro and renovate it.

The two clubs have made it clear they have zero intention of staying in San Siro, that was built in 1926, and renovated twice since, most recently ahead of the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

As per the report, due to a load of safety measures, the look of San Siro would have to be changed a lot if renovation work, which would be very costly, were to take place. Maintenance costs after possible renovation work would also have to be factored in.

The article does not cite that the Polytechnic University said that "it's difficult and complicated refurbish the Meazza Stadium", but it could still have a "second life" by giving it a "new function". The Polytechnic, however, also is the advisor of Inter and Milan for the development of the new project.

Milan council gives OK to new San Siro stadium

Current iconic ground will be 'repurposed' says mayor Sala

As for the future of the current San Siro, Sala said "we reiterated our wish to repurpose it and so we are ready to assess solutions that do not envisage the scrapping of the present building, but rather its regeneration via other functions".
