Vadodara MP, FGI meet Union minister; seek international flights from city

Source: TOI

Quote:
Vadodara MP Ranjan Bhatt and Federation of Gujarat Industries (FGI) met Union civil aviation minister Suresh Prabhu and requested to start an international flights from Vadodara airport. They also made representation for extending the existing runway for regular international flights.
FGI officials said that they joined Bhatt on the behalf of industries. FGI authorities said that Prabhu called joint secretary and officials of civil aviation to expedite the process. Prabhu assured Bhatt and the delegates that the civil aviation ministry will consider sentiments of the people in central Gujarat and work on the matter swiftly to get the international flight operational.

The FGI has in past made representations to increase the connectivity from Vadodara airport to other cities. The industrial body feels that having more air connectivity with other cities will not just boost trade but also increase tourism.

There is some hope of runway extension; a month old piece.

National highway in city to pass under its airport runway

Source: TOI

Quote:
Vadodara: If things go well, Vadodara airport will become second airport in the country to have national highway pass under its runway.
This, if an underpass is constructed on existing NH-48 so that the existing runway of Vadodara airport gets extended for landing of big aircraft.
Union minister for road transport and highways, shipping, chemical and fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya on Saturday said his ministry is ready for construction of such an underpass on the NH-48 on the outskirts of the city.
“We received a representation from Vadodara MP Ranjan Bhatt and have agreed to appoint a consultant who will submit a detailed report for construction of the underpass so that the existing runway of Vadodara airport can be extended,” said Mandaviya.
“Since this requires coordination with four different ministries, civil aviation ministry will coordinate with the rest. Also, the consultant appointed for the project will coordinate with Airports Authority of India, Indian Air Force (which owns a parcel of land near the existing runway) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI),” he said.
During his visit to the city for review of ongoing projects of NHAI, Mandaviya also met Vadodara MP, MLAs and elected representatives of Vadodara Municipal Corporation.
Ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new aerodynamic-shaped terminal building of Vadodara airport in October 2016, Barodians are yearning for connectivity to international destinations from the city.
But the length of the existing runway – 8,100 feet – is not enough for big aircraft to land at Vadodara airport forcing Barodians to remain dependent on Ahmedabad airport to board long distance direct flights to international destinations.
It is worth mentioning here that recently Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Babatpur – 26km from Varanasi – received a go ahead for construction of such an underpass, making it country’s first airport to have a national highway under its runway.

Vadodara airport’s national rank jumps to four (in Customer Satisfaction Index)

VADODARA: Vadodara airport has figured at second position in western region in the customer satisfaction index (CSI) as per a survey conducted by a private agency on behalf of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Also, the airport has also been listed at fourth position at all-India level in the survey of 51 airports done between July and December 2018.

In terms of all-India position, the airport’s ranking has improved from 11th position last year. Registering 4.78 score on the scale out of five, this year, Vadodara airport has been adjudged fourth behind Raipur, Trichy and Udaipur.

“It is because of our continuous efforts of improving customer service and environment at the airport that we have been ranked second best in the western region,” said airport director Charan Singh.

The survey is carried out on 40 to 50 parameters including cleanliness and services among others and feedback is taken from customers, airlines and passengers. The western region includes airports located in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

The airport currently han-dles around 4,000 passengers per day. “We have crossed 1 million yearly passenger mark now. Going by the current numbers, we will be handling 11 lakh passengers this year,” said Singh. The airport witnesses 32 movements of arrivals and departures with connectivity to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Indore and Jaipur while there is also a flight connecting Vadodara to Chennai via Hyderabad.

Hello friends !!

More than two years after inauguration, no significant development at Vadodara Airport has taken place. No new flighta were added by Air India or Indigo except Bengaluru & Hyderabad.

Flights from-to Vadodara runs 95-100% load.

If Authorities do not find space to expand Vadodara Airport, then they should start to find alternate site for new airport (Greenfield Airport). This is right time to develop airport Infrastructure & Vadodara has significant role in India's economy.

Vadodara is centre for Education, Sports, Tourism & Diversified Industries. People from various part of country & Vice versa.

It is very difficult to understand why Vadodara Airport is not connected to atleast one foreign destination. One daily schedule flight for Abu Dhabi, Doha, Bangkok or Singapore thrice or four times a week ia good idea

Also there is not single route under UDAN !! Routes such as Pune, Bhopal, Aurangabad, Jamnagar, Rajkot would be a good idea.

The government provided the infrastructure. If airline operators don't find operating flights from Vadodara profitable enough, not much can be done.

That is welcome move by Air India & Indigo. It would be nice if Spicejet starts with one flight each for Delhi & Mumbai. Air India should also consider one flight for Mumbai.

I am hoping that SpiceJet connects vadodara to Jaipur and Indore which was served by Jet.

It was doing well when Jet was running.

Industry, trade bodies seek better air connectivity for Vadodara

Quote:

TNN | Updated: Nov 22, 2019, 12:06 IST

VADODARA: A delegation of trade and industry bodies from the city as well as Vadodara MP Ranjan Bhatt met the union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari and union minister for civil aviation Hardeep Puri to press for international flight connectivity as well as increased domestic air connectivity for the city.

Members of the Central Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industries as well as Federation of Gujarat Industries were a part of the delegation. The delegation sought that immigration and custom facilities should be started at the airport terminal at the earliest to facilitate international flights.

The delegation met Gadkari to press for an underpass on the national highway bordering the city so that the runway of the airport could be extended to facilitate landing and take-off of larger aircrafts. It made presentations to the ministers to justify their demands.

Moving the national highway or making an underpass on it is not an easy task. There are several stakeholders involved and all of them have to agree. Also, there is a cost involved in doing so, and AAI or the aviation ministry may not be willing to put in that much money.

For better air connectivity, it is for the airline operators to introduce and operate new flights. If they do not see any profitability, there is not much what MP can do.

Direct international flight from BDQ may not happen soon, but if Air India's morning and evening flights to and from DEL get an "international connector status", the flyers would surely be benefited.
