Shutters were going down on Blue Inc when I went past at 3. Are they in trouble again?

They went into administration last month, don't know if they got a buyer.

It’s clear the electric is indeed off but I think it’s closed its door due to financial reasons and might not reopen.
I was walking through New Square today, and when crossing over to the Post Office near Pandora, I could see about 3 Western Power Distribution vans parked up alongside what appears to be the substation at the rear of Burger King excavating the area. There may well be a power issue here.

Every time I take the long slog to the dodgy McDolands on the High Street I wonder why they never opened in or near New Square. Plenty of opportunities for them.

Best option would be Burger King closing and McD's taking over, but a few others:

- Prezzo unit, if large enough
- Primark car park with a drive thru (multistorey would need to always be open then)
- Tesco side units
- Primark side units (not built)
- Take the current Costa when they open inside Next

On that last note, all seems to have gone quiet on the Costa within Next.

McDonalds seem to be focused on only building "Drive-Thru" branches so I'd go with a new unit built in one car park or another. They've applied to build outlets in other Tesco's car parks in the past..

I think this is the right place for this . Noticed the other night that the new Hotel next to the Tesco Petrol station seemed ready to go - Lights were on and it looked fitted out, car park/forecourt looked finished but still barriered off. A lot of work carried out since my last visit there

Yep, looks ready to open. All the beds got delivered a couple of weeks ago, quite an undertaking and not something I'd ever think of having to happen, haha.

West Brom branch moving to New Square shopping centre
By John Corser | West Bromwich | Business | Published: 5 hours ago

West Brom Building Society has announced plans to open a new branch in its home town, offering better accessibility and improved facilities for customers.

The building society is moving to the New Square Shopping Centre in West Bromwich, taking over a vacant unit close to the anchor Tesco Extra store. The two existing branches in the town centre will close.

The West Brom says its branch will provide its full array of savings and mortgage products as well as additional services such as home insurance and financial planning for later life and retirement will also be available.

Opening hours are being extended to offer customers more choice for when they can manage their money. Inside there will be five counter points handling customer transactions and two offices for private consultations.

The new branch is expected to be ready within the next three months.

Branch manager Pinda Kang said: “This is a really exciting move for the West Brom that puts our home town branch right in heart of the retail district and enhances the quality of service we can offer people locally.

“New Square is an extremely popular shopping area that is playing a key role in the wider regeneration of the town. Establishing a branch here will makes things convenient for our existing customers and hopefully help us to attract new ones too.”

The West Brom currently has two branches in West Bromwich town centre – one at 321 High Street opposite the Town Hall and a second at Dartmouth Square.

Both will close to make way for the new premises at New Square, although the dates will be staggered so that customers won’t have to experience any time without access to local branch facilities.

New Square shopping centre
Mr Kang added: “Maintaining service standards is critical while the new unit is made ready and our plans ensure that customers will have access to a West Brom branch throughout the process.

“Dartmouth Square will close first, around one week prior to New Square opening its doors, but 321 High Street will still be available. We will only close 321 High Street when New Square is ready to welcome people and begin operating.”

New Square on Cronehills Linkway is a major shopping and leisure destination with 30 stores, a selection of cafes and restaurants and a five-screen cinema. There is parking for around 1,900 vehicles and good links to West Bromwich High Street, the Midland Metro and local bus services.

Steve Burr, centre manager at New Square Shopping Centre, said: “The West Brom is a fantastic addition to New Square, bringing an incredibly useful and convenient service to complement the centre’s extensive retail and leisure offering. It’s also great to have such an iconic local business make its hometown base at the shopping centre.”

they'll be closing their Dartmouth Square branch and their 321 High Street branch. High Street is sad, and hopefully a new use is found for the building, but Dartmouth Square is more promising, as maybe that building will be redeveloped alongside Marks & Spencer and Burton, which are currently being demolished.

I imagine The High Street building listed? I just hope it doesn't stay empty for long & whoever takes it over looks after properly. The Dartmouth Square building if it does get demolished will help create one hell of a development opportunity with the M&S building coming down & the proposed removal of the MSCP

It's rumoured that Sprinkles Gelato will be closing down soon.

Timpson opening inside Tesco; wonder if they'll close their high street branch.
