AN AMAZING finale to an amazing escape act saw Kendal avoid relegation with a stunning derby victory at neighbours Netherfield on Saturday.

And delighted Auld Greys skipper Chris Miller said the 87 run triumph, which clinched his side’s Northern League survival in the final minutes of a long season, was undoubtedly one of the greatest moments of his career.

Two-goal McKirdy clinches victory for Carlisle Utd at Stevenage


Stevenage 2 Carlisle United 3: Harry McKirdy was the hero for Steven Pressley's side as his late goal earned Carlisle United a much-needed win.

The recalled forward saw his deflected effort find the net in the 83rd minute as the Blues grabbed the points against winless Stevenage.

It was McKirdy's second of a high-scoring game.

STAVELEY'S Rob Jebb won Sunday's Three Peaks Cyclo Cross race for the 12th time - but his victory was not without incident.

The 44-year-old, who rides for Hope Factory Racing, led from start to finish after going off really hard to get away from the chasing pack on Ingleborough.

Carlisle United 1 Oldham Athletic 0: Olufela Olomola's third-minute goal was enough for Carlisle United to secure their first home win since the opening day.

The loan striker scored his fifth of the season and United saw it through for a clean sheet and three important points at Brunton Park.

The Blues struck after ref Marc Edwards turned down the visitors' claims for a free-kick in midfield.

Ambleside runners dominate Three Shires


RUNNERS from the Ambleside club dominated Saturday's Three Shires race as they filled all the top four places.

In bright sunshine, more than 240 competitors tackled the 2oK course which involved just over 4,000 ft of climb and took a route over Wetherlan, Swirl How, Three Shires Stone, Pike O'Blisco and Lingmoor.

Fine effort in by Royal Windermere in keelboat finals


A FINE effort by the Royal Windermere Yacht Club team gave them a creditable sixth place in the British Keelboat League National Final.

The event, which was hosted by the Royal Thames Yacht Club at Queen Mary Reservoir, saw each team sail a fleet of eight new RS21 keelboats on a rotation basis over three days.

First win sets Kendal up for Morley test


IT was a nailbiter, but Kendal finally got their season going on Saturday with a hard fought home victory over Percy Park.

And as they prepare for this Saturday's testing trip to Morley, the club's director of rugby Chris Hayton believes the side can build on that maiden North One East win and put the recent difficult times behind them.

Unfortunately television dictates how this tournament is run now, hence the pointless inclusion of Premiership under 21 teams and group stages that teams have take part in for weeks on end. Should Carlisle have a relegation battle, they will still have this tournament to endure to add to their woes.

Mo Sagaf says he will play anywhere if it means keeping his place in the Carlisle United team.

The midfielder has made good progress since emerging in Steven Pressley’s side and caught the eye again at Newport.

Sagaf, who joined after a summer trial, has held onto his preferred central midfield position in Carlisle’s last two games.

THREE was frustration for Kendal Men’s 1s as a late breakaway goal gave visitors Bolton a 2-1 win in a North West Division 1 North clash

Cross country racer Paul Coon hopes to bring home a medal for England when he competes in a prestigious international competition next month.

Coon has been called up by the England Athletics Masters Association to run in the British & Irish Masters International Cross Country event at Aintree Racecourse on Saturday, November 16.

Ambleside's McCormack sweeps to world title


IT WAS a proud day for Ambleside's Sarah McCormack on Saturday when she was declared official champion at the Mountain Running World Cup.

The last race, which was held in Tacen near the Slovenian capital Ljubljana, was the prestigious 10km Smarna Gora race, which saw the runners take on narrow and technical forest trails with more than 700m of climb and 350m of descent.
