Couldn't make out what the main movie attraction was but the movie poster at the right of the photo was for the movie Quo Vadis. There are many versions of this movie being made but since this is a 1953 photo, I would take an educated guess it would have been the 1951 version starring Robert Taylor, Deborah Kerr & Peter Ustinov & directed by Mervyn LeRoy (facts from Wikipedia).

The spot where the coconut trees are located (background left) will be the future site for what is now Pertama Kompleks.

I think the reason for the traffic congestion is that people in their vehicles were slowing down to look at the picket that was obviously going on at the left side of the photo .........

A better question is 'Why I'm still here after having multiple account'.

That's undoubtedly a very old photograph... Shahzan Tower has been refurbished and is now the Standard Chartered Bank... We all know that the former Hilton KL (last operation was as Crowne Plaza Mutiara) is being demolished and as for Wisma Genting, I have forgotten how it looked like before the height + size extension!

Actually the surprising element is that there are so few surviving photographs of Wisma Genting's first phase!

One could see that only half is built first

DBKL record shows that there is a row consist of 7 land plots there. 3 plots are empty now which is an open air car park and 4 lots zoned as residential. The shops facing the road should consist 2 or 3 of these residential plots which the corner plot have houses facing the road going into Bukit Nanas.

Haha, very true... Typing "Wisma Genting" in Google Search gives you images of the present-day building, but nothing of what it looked like previously!

I have been to the Walton Malaysia office in Wisma Genting and turns out that the former side of the original building still exists (where the two black windows are), but as part of a passageway connecting the new tower with the older one, as well as providing access to the stairwells and toilets... Which means that the building really does seem half-complete originally!

Now that's a very big and valuable piece of land... I can safely say that the descendants of the original owner are still staying there, based on the general upkeep of the place as well as some cars parked inside!

Oh ya, one more thing about this photo... Wisma Jerneh (now ACE Jerneh) looks almost the same as now, although the building does not look so grimy and aged like what it is today... Even that 4-level corner shop-lot with red lines is exactly the same, but I can't remember the tenant occupying the bottom floor today...

Btw, the office building housing the Pizza Hut is now a hotel, if I'm not wrong... However, is Pizza Hut still there, just to ask?

Wow, what a contrast... Never knew that the busy thoroughfare we now know as Jalan Sultan Ismail looked like this small town road (complete with overhead wires and shrubs on the roadside), back in those days!

Too bad the Equatorial and ex-Hilton, both luxury gems in their prime, have gone into history... Which means that for the modern hotel towers from the years before 1980, the only ones remaining in KL are the Federal, Concorde, Parkroyal, and a portion of the present Impiana KLCC Hotel (which was the ex-Holiday Inn on the Park)... Although we can look forward to the upcoming flashy skyscrapers that will be constructed on the Hilton-Equatorial sites!

The 4-storey building at the corner now is called Wisma Apple as Apple Holidays bought it a few years back. The ground floor is now rented to Maybank.

The Pizza Hut is still there and the upper floors is a budget hotel
