Some photos from around KL in the 1970s .........

Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman 1977 on a rather quiet day - sunday? public holiday?

Jalan Pudu KL 1975 with the pedestrian bridge and the old Majestic Cinema (now already torn down) at the right side of the photo .........

Jalan Bukit Bintang 1974 with the old Regent Hotel on the background left side and the site for the present-day Sungai Wang Plaza on the right .........

Foch Avenue (Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock) 1975. On the background right you can see what looks like the construction of Pudu Raya bus terminal. On the left side of the photo lies the site for the present day Kota Raya shopping complex ...........

View of Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock - 1974 photo

KL skyline photo taken in 1972. On the left, you can see the construction of the old Hilton KL (now Crowne Plaza Mutiara) and on the right is the old MUI Plaza building. I wonder if that building is still around now?

Busy street scene of Jalan Tun Perak. Photo taken in 1972 ...........

Chow Kit Road street scene in 1975 ..........

View of Petaling Street taken from the direction of Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock in 1976 ..........

Menara Hap Seng. This photo was taken from the old Merlin hotel i think .Its amazing they dont need tower cranes back then ha!Only if the cameraman had pan the camera to the right a little it would show the huge mansion where the Shangri La hotel is now.

I was actually hoping they would clad the Menara Hap Seng in glass after the renovation, but maintaining the existing look also seems fine... The building certainly looks better than during its MUI Plaza days, especially the contemporary-looking podium!

KL skyline in 1973 - Old KL Hilton is on the extreme right. Not sure though what is the building in the middle and on the extreme left. Any ideas?

I think you may be right on that one - anyway, what are those buildings on the foreground of the photo? Looks like low-cost flats to me .........

Hmmm, from the angle of the shot, it reminds me of the exact same view from Bankers Club in Amoda Building, directly behind Federal Hotel... Looks like those "low-cost flats" are actually the shops along Jalan Alor...

And in a few years time, two of the high-rise buildings in taurus064's pictures will have been replaced by newer skyscrapers... I'm talking about the aging Hotel Equatorial and former Hilton KL (presently Crowne Plaza Mutiara), btw...

Or to be more precise (correct me if I'm wrong on this) those shop houses/ low cost flats in the foreground are situated along the Jalan Alor-Tengkat Tong Shin area just across the road from Wisma Lim Foo Yoong in Jalan Raja Chulan.

In fact the photo looks very similar to another photo I have posted some time back which shows the KL skyline of 1978:

And I know that they have or are going to tear down the Equatorial Hotel to build a newer hotel in its place but old Hilton KL (now Crowne Plaza Mutiara) is going to come down also? That's news to me but does anybody have any info on this one?
