The comparison of THEN in 1987 and NOW in 2013

In the comparison, now it is glass panel with cylindrical wood placed on top to complete the railings. Then was brick wall with metal piping placed on top of the brick wall railings.
Around Kuala Lumpur in 1989 ..........

The busy traffic at Jalan Tun H S Lee (formerly Jalan Bandar) near its junction with Jalan Sultan. Note also the old facade of the famous Hindu temple - the Sri Mahamariamman temple at the extreme background right of the photo ...../QUOTE]

Taken in 24 February 2013

Comparing the photo taken in 1989 and taken in 24 February 2013.

Wing Loong Stationeries Sdn Bhd still exist till today. Their signboard has changed.

Kedai Runcit Yong Thye Leong has changed to Fafa Beads Wholesale.

Syarikat Woh Fatt still exist, but the facade has changed and it seems hs gone back to the original state of the building.

Not sure what was next to Woh Fatt where the view has been blocked by lorry. It seems that that is Yat Hang.

The Rumah Tumpangan (name illegble) has changed colour and not longer a rumah tumpangan.

The shop next to the Rumah Tumpangan, called Something Weng Sdn Bhd has become Raizzy's

Taken from the opposite side of the above

If we examine the original picture we can see what is possibly the old High Court Building (on the current site of Menara Maybank).

[IMG][/IMG]

This building is almost definitely the High Court building as we can see in the following picture:

[IMG][/IMG]

The clincher to the argument is this picture taken in the 1930s looking down Lebuh Pudu. We can again see the High Court building, but pay attention to the row of shophouses with the pointed roofs. These are identical to those visible in the first picture except from a different angle.

[IMG][/IMG]

Mapping the locations shows that this is probably true and even accounts for the different viewing angle of the shophouses.

HAWFLAKE...

The last photo has been deleted?

As for the second last photo, where KWONG CHEONG goldsmith shop, the photo below is taken in 24 February 2013

To take from the exact location, it has to be standing right in the middle of the road where the back of the Metrobus is. Dangerous!

The above 2 photos will not be able to take the exact full view of the row of buildings.

To get the full view, below is the only way to do it, as in standing on the divider below the Ampang LRT line

So, do cherish the two photos taken in the late 1980s to early 1990s

From your photo posted, below is some of the identified places/buildings.

Anybody can add on to identify more places/buildings?

Do please correct me if I have mistaken or wrongly named places.

Over to you.

This is how Jalan Bukit Bintang used to be before half of this road was closed for MRT station construction. Plaza Bukit Bintang can be seen at the extreme left of the photo ........
At the moment, cannot take photo from the exact location due to the high metal deck erected for the MRT development

I do see the point, long1209 - it is impossible to take photo from the exact location of this photo today due to the on-going construction of the MRT station. Hopefully when the construction of the MRT station is finally completed then only we can re-think about photo-taking .......

Agree, but not sure by when it will be completed, following on the way projects are being managed in Malaysia. Usually will be over run in terms of time and cost. <sigh>

Question : Is the NOW photo taken from the wrong angle?

The entrance to Madras Lane from Jalan Tun H.S. Lee (previously High Street)

Photo taken in 24 February 2013

A closer look of the rear portion where previously Klang Bus Station and Uda Ocean was before they were demolished.

Location : Cross junction of Jalan Sultan (Sultan Street) and Jalan Tun H.S. Lee (High Street)

Sad to see some of the icons go.

Does anybody remember Arena Sukan broadcast over Radio Malaysia?

The commentator then was the Late Vincent Fernandez.

Of course!

I remembered his famous program-ending quote "majulah sukan kerana sukan".
