Aspire, 211m, has a builder, so two 200m towers will begin construction after the Xmas break.

Melbourne-based builder Hickory will start construction on ICD Property's 65-level “super tower” in Melbourne CBD next month.

The building appointment follows shortly after the developer secured construction funding from investment bank Goldman Sachs and non-bank lender MaxCap for the $440 million tower in September.

The Aspire tower's construction contract is valued at around $180 million, with the skyscraper expected to stand 211 metres tall, and comprise 594 apartments when complete.

ICD is developing the Aspire tower with joint venture partner financier MaxCap, which has both debt and equity positions on the project.

The appointment marks the first project between ICD and Hickory.

Matthew Khoo said the builder was selected due to their “innovative approach and proven ability to deliver skyscrapers of scale”.

“Hickory have contributed to Australia’s property landscape since 1991 with quality projects,” Khoo said.

The King street skyscraper is one of the city’s last permitted “super towers”.

The Urban Developer

Thanks, db2.

The nearby UNO tower, 210m, is the other one.

Another spectacular skyscraper is on the way as Probuild are currently preparing to take Site Possession to construct award-winning Malaysian property developer SP Setia’s iconic 65-level residential tower, UNO at 111 A’Beckett Street, Melbourne. This will be Probuild's fourth tower in A'Beckett Street after MY80, Empire and Avant, taking our total completed apartments in this area to well over 2,000. It is also our fourth Elenberg Fraser designed building and we are excited to be partnering with them again to build another iconic tower together."

JCooza's nicely framed shot of Melbourne Square, which is about 53/54 on the core. The west tower has topped out. The buildings in the foreground are the Southgate Theatres, Recital Centre and the brand new Conservatorium of Music (the taller white structure).

380 Lonsdale

Melbourne Square, with the tower on the right at full height, as the east tower continues its climb to 231m. Renders for the office tower have just gone up on the site: 29L/38,000 sq.m. We're hoping that a height trade off has boosted the height of the tallest resi. Thanks JCooza. Decatur has just posted this clarification on the height of the office component: "29 office levels plus 2 levels of end of trip plus ground floor foyer plus plant is probably 35 levels which is 140-145m which is about right".

435 Bourke Street is full steam ahead with demolition out to tender. 210m from Hardware Land entrance and 207m from Bourke Street entrance.

Work continues on the bluestone heritage building at the base of Swanston Central, but the tower seems to be substantially complete. The glass just glows in these beautiful shots by Sydlicious and deebs.

Proposals & Construction: 200m-249m skyscrapers

Managed to get 5 of the 9 buildings UC > 200m - ran out of time. So here are the 5 in the CBD west end... didn’t get to the 2 in Southbank or the 2 in the CBD east end... and I don't get out of bed for anything under 150m anyway.

Premier

West Side Place x 2

Queens Place

380 Lonsdale
