as much i want it, i dont see it coming for now. Shanghai is building over 600m already, because of the tiny space. other giant city are booming, but they still have these available plots and spaces, so i can imagine 2 500m buildings in some cities more than one that reaches 700m. i mean its just a matter of time, but for now it looks like we will see more and more 400m to 500m buildings but only few 600m and they may stay alone in each city for few years till more of the surroundings are also risen.

yes, but the purpose of going from 4-500 to 700 will be more about prestige of the city than for purely economic reasons. So as long as there's such political will, it is not impossible.

oh wait i did not realize that this project includes both of the twin towers, the 500m and the 400m one. so the suzhou supertower is a complete different project and we have 3 buildings over 400m in total, wow. now i am confused because i went into this with a different perspective

In 1928-1933, the USA, Manhattan, built a series of buildings that were all the tallest in the world.

During the height of the Great Depression, when many in the USA were starving, homeless, DustBowl in the Plains, no electricity or internal running water, and other such throwbacks to the 19th C.

The construction of those buildings caused a groundswell of support for ideas that basically ended up with bringing the rest of the USA up to the standards one would expect with such large, impressive, modern buildings.

IOW, construction of such supertalls will cause a concomitant rise in the rest of society as it is improved to match these structures.
