AP Governrment Plans Three-tier Educational Facility for Amaravati

Source:http://www.newindianexpress.com/stat...cle3210704.ece

Besides establishing an Education City, which will house various private universities and higher learning centres, Andhra Pradesh government wants to set up three tier educational facilities in the new capital city, Amaravati.

Educational institutes will be set up at three levels in the new capital city. Those three levels are: 1. City level, 2. Town level, and 3. Neighbourhood level.

City level educational facilities include multi-disciplinary national universities, with 290 Ha of land allocated to accommodate State level colleges and university campuses. These major educational hubs will be located in the Education City, supported by the surrounding town and neighbourhood level facilities.

Special land has also been allocated for technical institutions covering a land area of 4 Ha to support a population catchment of 1,00,00,000 people in close proximity to each of the regional centres. These institutions can focus on the types of industries promoted in the Capital city.

At the township level, smaller scale institutes will fulfil community needs for education, located within walking distance for users. These smaller scale facilities include primary schools, secondary schools, special schools, and junior colleges. Each township will also offer at least one vocational/ higher education institute.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/h...w/50370670.cms

HYDERABAD: The Amity University announced on Tuesday that it will set up a campus in Amaravati, the upcoming capital city of Andhra Pradesh.

The university will be operational and open for admissions from its own campus by 2017.

A delegation led by Atul Chauhan, chancellor and president of the university called on Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu at his residence here and informed him that the varsity offers over 250 different courses in various fields.

Chauhan said that the university that began in 2005 saw rapid growth and grew into setting up 11 universities, 20 campuses and 18 schools. He said that their faculty included experienced members from across the world with students from over 60 countries.

"Our university serves with a purpose to provide quality education so that Indian students do not have to go abroad, while, foreign students show interest in our institutions. We want to contribute towards your vision of transforming Andhra Pradesh into a knowledge and education hub," he added.

Naidu said that he wants to encourage best universities in the world to set up their campuses in the state. Stating that the students' hailing from the state hold potential to excel in any field, he wants to build a campus that offers professional and value-based education for students.

He asked the delegation to bring international expertise to construct best campuses in Amaravati. He also suggested to offer joint degree programmes for students in collaboration with foreign universities.

Education city to be 1st hub to be completed in Amaravati

Source:http://www.deccanchronicle.com/15102...eted-amaravati

Hyderabad: The education city in Amaravati, the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, is expected to be among the first hubs to be completed by 2018.

The Andhra Pradesh government has planned to set up about nine hubs - called the navaratnas — within the capital city, dedicated to entertainment, education, health, justice, economy sectors, among others. Among all of these, the government has said that the education city would be the first to be completed. The government is already writing to several top notch institutions to set up campuses in the education hub of Amaravati.

AP is also set to pass the Private Universities Bill in the Assembly which will pave the way for private entities to set up full-fledged universities in the state. The government is already in talks with varsities like Amity, Lovely Professional University to set up campuses in the capital.

Not only these, institutions like the SRM and Vellore Institute of Techn-ology of Tamil Nadu, which have a huge Telugu population, are also being invited to set up campuses. However, national institutions like the IIT, IIM and NIT will not figure in the capital city for they have already been allotted to other cities in the state.

The Naidu government is not willing to stop at just Indian institutions. The government has already held talks with foreign universities like the Cambridge and National University of Singapore (NUS) to set up campuses in the state.

Cambridge University has also in principle agreed to partner with the AP government but the modalities are yet to be finalised considering there is no legal framework for foreign universities to set up teaching campuses in the country without taking profits back home. This, however, is likely to change by the time the capital comes up.

Five private universities to come up in AP

http://www.deccanchronicle.com/natio...ses-in-ap.html

Quote:
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Government on Friday decided to issue Letters of Intent to five private universities for setting up their campuses in the State. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here this afternoon.

While Amity, SRM and VIT would set up campuses in the new capital region Amaravati, Centurion would open a university on its own land in Vizianagaram district.

The Fisheries and Ocean University would come up in Bhimavaram, Information and Public Relations Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy told mediapersons after the meeting.

The Cabinet, at its meeting last month, decided to allot 150 acres of land for Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Amaravati while the request of Amity and SRM for land was under consideration.

The Cabinet today also decided to permit setting up of six "functional universities" in the Public-Private Partnership mode, the Information Minister said. The functional universities would come in the fields of water, energy, logistics, sports, hospitality and fisheries with the respective Government departments tying up with private parties, Reddy added.

In another decision, the Cabinet approved the setting up of AP Innovation Society, "the first-of-its-kind in the country", to promote innovation, incubation and start-ups. The Society would have chapters in each district, said Reddy, who also handles the Information Technology portfolio.

In another policy decision aimed at boosting job opportunities, the Government decided to set up MSME Parks (micro, small and medium enterprises) in each of the 175 Assembly segments in the State. "Each MSME Park will come up in 100 acres and each will create 1,000 (total 1.75 lakh) jobs. The Government will develop necessary infrastructure like roads, water and power supply for the parks," Palle said.

"Land is readily available in 117 Assembly segments. We have to procure land in the rest of the segments."

The Cabinet approved allocation of several thousand acres of land in districts for various purposes. In district of Visakhapatnam, 742 acres would be given for setting up the Knowledge Hub project through the Higher Education Department.

Bharat Electronics, a defence PSU, would be allotted 45.27 acres at Palasamudram village, Anantapuramu district for setting up a test-bed facility for radars and weapons systems.

Each acre would be sold at Rs 3 lakh. The Government also decided to acquire 125 acres at Veerapanenigudem village near Vijayawada for setting up an engineering cluster for the manufacture of defence machinery equipment.

"Already 86 acres is available for the cluster. In all 78 companies will invest Rs 200 crore in the project and create 2,000 jobs," Reddy said.
