I think it is way too early to call it bland or boring. There is no real indication on either of the buildings what the cladding will be and you have to remember that there will be 100 plus meters buildings to the left and right immediately, behind and ahead of it on either side of the key. It most imposing will be right in-front coming in from the water. I imagine this is the effect that that they are going for. I think if was a twin tower development with both buildings at 56 storeys then yeah, it would be too much.

I still think it's a shame the plus part has been removed but like Crave the more I look at it the more I like it. I just hope that the silverish colour used as the cladding in the render is not like the greyish washed out cladding they use on The Shard in London. Mind you that might work better in Perth with the endless sunshine.

It has a kind of OMA De Rotterdam tower vibe, but really not sure how I feel about it.

Letís not get ahead of ourselves - thereís still time to scale it back.

Itís likely that the next incarnation will be half as tall, with the overhang and glass ĎTí treatment removed.

We need a recession to stop cluttering up EQ.

if tha design makes it look oddly suspended and depending where you're looking from a distance, I think this will be brilliant.

I think the problem is the location. If this was going elsewhere in Perth it would be fine (and celebrated).
But here it will really overwhelm EQ at that level of bulk at that height.
The original proposal was much better for this site.

I'm hoping for a dramatic height concession to keep the original thinness in order to fit more units ... can only hope...

I don't think its too early at all to not be happy with this design.

I am curious to know if the original promotion was part of the MRA selling the site to BF??? Probably not but I just find it deceiving if it was for this change now.

The original promotion had the cantilevered plus which is gone, but also in their fancy schematics they implied their justification for removing the podium was they wanted to create/extend the events space of EQ. Their plan was to have a large amount of fold out shades that would open and close infront of restaurants etc- that looks like it has all gone also - instead there are trees in planters (not that im not against more green space at all).

Now we could be left with just another fat arse BHPesk building on our face.

Fat arse BHP, cockroach Convention Centre, blank wall EQUUS all got approved do we have confidence this will be tweaked???

The lack of a distinguished podium in all of the concepts has annoyed me. The glass tower looks fine (even if featureless) but it runs to the ground so abruptly. Same as the main EQ west tower.

Rubbish, just like bhp & e..West. No thoughts in how they blend with existing skyline.
Just fridges blocking out other fridges.

Careful what you submit on this. They may take it the wrong way and reduce this to nothing, then we'll be in the shit even more.

I actually don't mind this being imposing. Imposing leads to awe

In my comments I explicitly told them Iíd prefer a taller building with less bulk and that I hoped they wouldnít simply remove the extra height allowance and force it to be a shorter building. Itís good to be specific when commenting on proposals.

Meanwhile in Sydney the are getting Crown, in Melbourne they are getting Australia 108 and in Brisbane they are getting Queens Wharf oh well.....

Companies leasing office space want bigger floors because that means they are paying for less non-productive space (lift lobbies, bathrooms, break rooms, utility closets etc) per worker.

yep, exactly why I like just one... I'm hoping the augmentation is enough. I think it is...
I think it'll be pretty much this finish too...

I suggested they maintain the height but look at elements from the design of the quay to influence the building like curves, ovals and patterns etc 😅

I have to say, I feel the same.

My first feeling was definitely WTF, but the more I look at it, the more I appreciate it. It gives the feeling on strength and one that feels like it anchors the area. I feel like the combination of the standard tower look jazzed up a bit with the cantilevered makes for a nice transition between the more edgy buildings in the Quay, and the more ho-hum buildings in the city proper

I definitely liked the original design at the time, but now looking back at it, it just seems 'weak' compared to this current proposal, where its heft seems to pull together the buildings on the opposing sides of the Quay
