and they still have the nerve to charge $30/car

good thing my dad's job is about a 15-20 minute walk from the stadium so we just park there

yup -- ever since 1973

Kauffman's seats used to be the roughly same color until 1999

(the middle tier was yellow)

Jerry Jones charges $70 for parking at his castle. So you've got it nice.

Have the Chiefs and Royals ever had a game at the same time? I always wonder about that when there are stadiums close together, like KC or Philadelphia. I'm sure they go out of their way to ensure that they play on seperate days, but I can imagine there being some sort of quirk one time where both teams are playing at roughly the same time and day.

If not at the same time, how often would they both play on the same day? Like a day baseball game and a Sunday night football game.

Not at the same time, of course, but the two venues have hosted events on the same day a handful of times.

I attended a Royals game the afternoon before a college game at Arrowhead: the Eddie Robinson Classic, played between Iowa State and Florida State on August 24, 2002.

The Royals faced the Minnesota Twins earlier in the day, and I learned pretty quickly that ISU fans --at least the ones that came to KC -- also happen to be Twins fans; there had to have been close to 10,000 of them there, and they were considerably louder and more boisterous than our fans (as is often the case when a big-ticket opponent visits The K).

Chuck Knoblauch, that year a Royal outfielder and longtime Twin second baseman who bitterly divorced his former organization (demanded a trade) in 1997 and spent the prior four seasons as a New York Yankee, was showered with a torrent of boos in a pinch-hit plate appearance in the bottom of the 9th.

That night, ISU staged a furious 2nd-half comeback led by Seneca Wallace which fell just short at the FSU goal line:

I was disappointed with myself afterward that I didn't stick around for the football game -- I thought it had sold out when, in actuality, only about 55,000 people showed up.

This is why I like having the Vikings in downtown, I spend $3.50 to get there and back on the train, which with gameday traffic isn't much slower. No tailgating but $70 for parking is robbery, hell $30 (which is about as bad as we see in the downtown lots) is obscene when you think about it.

Last season during week 1 of the NFL, the Chiefs had a monday night game at 9pm and the Royals played a day game at 2pm, they had a promotion where you could buy tickets to both games and park in one lot, after the baseball game they kicked everyone out of the other parking lots before the football crowds were able to park in them.

This rolling roof idea, it looks like they would still have gaps that would allow the elements inside? If you have big gaps on the sides that allows in the cold air, what good would the roof be?

Yeah I thought the same thing when I first heard about the rolling roof proposal. That's why it's good that they wont be doing the rolling roof proposal.

I think there would've been heaters under the roof and panels that would open and close.

Best stadium in the NFL (although I am slightly biased lol)

just in case anyone wondered, all 4 sides are symmetrical, which is pretty cool

I certainly wouldn't say best in the NFL, but quite unique and it has aged remarkably well (along with Kauffman) considering its largely a 1970s structure. I like it quite a bit but would never put it no 1.

The grass is almost always in poor shape, especially when the weather turns, any talk about replacing the grass with FieldTurf or some equivalent?

Ask any football player and they'd tell you they would rather play on crappy grass than turf.

I remember several years ago the Patriots played a home game at Gillette Stadium and the grass was terrible. The very next week they played a home game on a FieldTurf surface and haven't regretted it since.

No player wants to play on crappy grass. A player wants to play on in order...

1. A superior natural grass surface.
2. A superior artificial "FieldTurf" like surface.
3. A crappy natural grass surface.
4. A crappy artificial "FieldTurf" like surface.
5. The old astroturf like artificial turf surface that was used in the '70's and '80's.
