Surely a building of this height is of negative influence to the very close by Grade 2 listed St Martins Church? How could planners allow this through? Another finger in the air job?

This really should go back to planning anyway, it looks really dated and beige at the bottom. The glass pannles look like they could be brought off in strong winds and this is a terrible location for a skyscraper. It is not sensitive at all to Selfridges which is one of the city's most iconic buildings and St Martins. Not only that... look at their track record with the finish on that yellow turn next door?

I really hope this never happens.

I think the boat carrying any historical context of St Martin's Church with its surroundings sailed out of port a long time ago.

Beorma Quarter | Phase 2 | Mixed-Use | 30fl | 113m | Appr.

Ironically I don’t think the rest of the Bullring is sensitive to either St Martins or Selfridges! Happy to see this built.

Partly because the demolished Bullring already killed the setting of the Church. However, the setting of the church is already compromised so the addition of this building IMO wouldn't compromised it's setting any more than it already is.

In any case, it's a misconception that it's height and it's impact upon a listed building, it's the impact on the setting of the listed building that is important.

Beorma Quarter | Phase 2 | Mixed-Use | 30fl | 113m | Appr.

This is a real iconic tower right next to the bull ring. We are all geared up in delivering the project successfully with the Client and Broadway Malyan.

Associate director of Walsh said this on the Beorma Quarter LinkedIn post 4 hours ago

Let hope both the director and the associate director have said so, maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel for this development

When he said delivering the project, he might not be talking about the final tower. We have no idea what they have exactly been instructed to do for a start.

I’d prefer it without the outer glass panel as would be more aesthetically pleasing IMO but I think from memory they are to form the balcony type structures on the upper floors so guess they’ll be staying. Overall though it looks good would love to see it get built!

Hmm I guess but from the post one could interpret he was talking about the tower. I’m just saying that they still talking about it so there some must be an intention behind his words, we’ll see soon what happening lol

Fair point. It's understandable though for people to assume he's referring to the tower.

It is but i'm just saying, exercise caution. They still have two phases of the site to build remember.

I may be wrong but I think broadway Malyan are only involved in the tower phase (so far)

I'm sure they submitted the plans for both phase 2 and 3 in the 2015 application.

The only thing that will get this tower out of the ground before HS2 rolls in, will be one of the reputable developers currently working on projects now in the city, buying this land off the current developer in my opinion.
I don't see anything new (false promises) in what's been said here, that we haven't already heard time and time again over the last 10 years.
Annoying because this site is a gateway to what potentially will be the new old town of Digbeth, reemerging as a reinvented exciting district of the city centre. It needs a statement building here, but I don't see it coming from the "cowboys" that are currently wheeler dealing with this site.
