I can attest that this project is up and running in Eastleigh. There have just been some delays. The project is Somali owned however.

I wonder if Nakumatt will still anchor there, given their recent unlucky streak

I was in Nairobi last week and the word is they're still going ahead. It will be their only store in Eastleigh.

Thanks to @Wildbeest

This project has undergone a massive design change. And has gotten a new name

BBS: Business Bay Square

Quote:
Located at Eastleigh Nairobi, Business Bay Square is an exquisite, interactive and integrated mixed-use development at the heart of Eastleigh. Business Bay Square offers residents and guests a selection of spacious apartments, stylish commercial offices, state of the art hotel with an outpatient hospital facility integrated on the second floor, joined together at the base of the mall are a community of stalls and a supermarket and a Mosque on the third level with an area of around 1200sqm.

Looks like they got some serious investors. The inclusion of a hospital reminds me of this article from last year on the emergence of this area as a medical hub.

https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/...v9h/index.html

Quote:
First, innovation hubs have the ability to attract “dreamers”, those who dare to venture out to uncharted territories; secondly the potential to catch the eyes of funders and finally the availability of a high population that adopts the products.

While Upper Hill has dominated Kenya’s healthcare scene, anyone following the goings on will not fail to notice the rise of the Eastlands. In particular that square area bounded by General Waruinge Street down to Eastleigh Second Avenue, back to Juja Road and finally Forest Road is emerging as the new epicentre of healthcare enterprises.

A renaissance brought about by financing from returnees and foreigners with an acquired taste keen to transplant ideas is possibly a reason. Here’s the interesting fact though: the average age of a health entrepreneur in the area is below 30 at launch as opposed to Upper Hill’s 40’s.

General view of the Eastleigh area. At 5.01 you can see the excavation works at the Business bay square.
