I don't know how to feel about this.

Very art deco! A bit of a chunky design though...

Thanks for setting up the thread, for one of the many schemes that I hadn't gotten around to do.

It's definitely neo art-deco, but it's a bit on the bulky side.

For those not aware, the green makes it obvious they've been inspired by The Wiltern in Los Angeles, a historic, popular, uber hip and very distinctively iconic green terracotta 'deco' confection.. although this is a more streamline moderne take on it.

The proposal takes heavy cues from the nearby Hoover Building:

The Hoover Building is just awesome. The Wiltern, well, where's the surf and sand? More suited to Miami's South Beach perhaps, but I don't dislike it and it must be an improvement here.

Struggling to see the green, as the photo is incredibly overcast. The Eastern Columbia Building has similar green terracotta cladding.

I love art deco so this is right up my street but its also great that they have referenced the nearby Hoover building. I really hope this gets built as rendered.

I used to past this building several times a week for multiple years. Its famously green, and one of the most famous buildings in the US (according to Wikipedia)

Its also not overcast if you look at the sun. Its in the shade/ colours blown out by the sunlight.

The Eastern Columbia building is more of a turquoise, but arguing over what to call a shade is never a winner..

I'd struggle with any one saying that calling this 'The Wiltern' is a random coincidence.

I agree, it's more suited for Brighton then London, even the colour is reminiscent of Brighton - minty green/blue.

I really want to like this one, being a big fan of art deco, but there is something just not quite right about it.

Ever thought of writing copy for the development?

It's the lack of symmetry that's the problem IMHO, it would work better if the entrance/tower were central. Otherwise it makes a nice change from random cladding etc.

I've got Facebook post saying "Help us to stop destroying Hoover Building" and link to object this application. Many comments what they are crazy to demolish Hoover Building and Council should do something. People love fake news nowadays.
