Two old carpenters are constructing inside from 22nd May.
there is no holiday... they are working from 8 am to 7 PM
their families would say "It’s good to have a husband that is well and absent from home."

this house is an instant house. I told there is few carpenter's something work inside in this thread..
Today I did know their skills..
I saw they shaved a board which is an old shinto Household altar by kanna
it was beautiful and amazing.

it is sad Those type of carpenter are getting decrease

I hope You did not mind My insignificant observation with regards to the date you mentioned earlier
On another hand , these carpenters are doing a outstanding job ....their decrease in numbers does not occur only in Japan..it's a trend in Romania as well , however , especially in Transilvania Region , We do still have some skiled carpenters an some of them are working on this kind of old sachsen houses :

http://designist.ro/arhitectura-desi...i-din-cincsor/

Enjoy
P.S. they do restauration , carpentry , etc ...

There are still ( Oh We should be so thankful for them ! ) some workers able and capable of doing this in Romania :

http://ochiuldeveghe.over-blog.com/2...rancoveni.html

Hope You'll enjoy this one !

http://costingxg.blogspot.ro/2013/05...rie-voila.html

...or this one ...

We still have a lot to do / work on this area , however , it seems We're on a fairly good track on a few areas at least

Dear castermaild , I do apologize for the off topic on Your thread

not at all
as for carpenter specializing in temple, shrine, etc. construction, we can only see it
however it is good to have many competition to keep their skills...

as for our house, it does not need a plasterwork though

we stopped by the Monky bridge in Saruhashi

Quote:
Located in Otsuki is one of Japan's most famous bridges. The 1300 year old wooden bridge crosses the Katsura River in Yamanashi as it flows between two high cliffs. The ingenious cantilevered design is said to have been inspired by monkeys holding hands to cross the river. Obviously it must have been rebuilt many times, but the basic design has never been changed. I was there on a drizzly day in August, but I want to return in autumn when the trees around the bridge are ablaze with color.

Well modernism is basically Western because it was principally derived from the Bauhaus in Germany and International Style in the United States. Funny concerning the latter, because Frank Lloyd Wright and Japanese architects mutually influenced each other from when he worked there in the 1920s.

It's also confusing because Meji to early-Showa era buildings considered classical in the West are usually classified as "modern architecture" in Japan. It's my understanding purely traditional Japanese houses are seldom built anymore because of labor shortages as Caster previously stated, impracticality from space limitations, as well as zoning laws.

Those shots of the river and mountains are truly beautiful. It is that kind of countryside in Japan that I absolutely love.

Also, I really like the look of the house being built. Thank you very much for documenting it so completely. It's really fascinating to follow your journey.

as for west side of Tokyo like Akigawa, Okutama.. there are many..
I think Chuo Highway is fast from Kofu to Tokyo.(from kofu to Hachioji 40min. to shinJuku an hour.
I used to come back from kofu to Nishi-kasai near Tokyo Desney land for 0ne hour half in mid night)
it is so nice to see old post towns of Koshu-Kaido highway and drive on the winding road though It takes three times.. because of many view points

BTW
it will set off scaffolding and its curtain tomorrow
