Well it is an addition to the skyline. That area does not have many buildings so it will make a difference.I heard him say they have mapped out various areas to have a planned skyline so it may have had a bearing but I cannot say conclusively

Yes take a chill pill.I never raise my hopes until there is concrete and readily available information and I see substantial activity so I will not get disappointed

To me there are only 2 true cbds:the old cbd and Upper Hill.I have lived in Westlands and it never seemed like a cbd.Just a mix of residential and commercial developments which is why I feel it will never have a defined skyline or very tall buildings. The only part which feels like it can ever be a cbd is the area enclosed by Mpaka Road,Parklands Road,Ring Road and Waiyaki Way but it is full of not so tall buildings.I think it is the same for Kilimani

I agree on kilimani, but the area encompassed by Waiyaki way, Westlands and Muthithi road will rise and be a cbd

What defines a CBD? May be that's where we should start. I think Westlands is a CBD by itself by let's define CBD first, city planners?!

In that case upper hill is one, Westlands is another, kilimani is not yet one, does that sound right?

We should ask the City Council or is it county government?

CBD might mean CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT or COMMERCIAL BUSINESS DISTRICT. In case of central business district it refers to the core of the city (assuming a city is composed of layers of concentric circles [semicircles for coastal cities] it is the innermost circle). In this case there is only one CBD in most cases. In case of commercial business district this refers to any part of the city where the land use is mainly commercial and not residential or industrial. In this case places like Westlands, Upper hill, Hurlingham/Kilimani, Buruburu Shopping, Karen Shopping centre, Eastleigh are all CBDs. That's according to my little knowledge on city planning that I learned back in campus.

This sounds more like semantics but I think you can have multiple business centers in the same city. Of course they should be independent from one another. I can see how satellite towns can become business districts. And, there's no doubt that CBD is abbreviation for central business district.
