The tower should have been where phase two will go.

Completely agree with that postcard view of Selfridges / St Martins . Yep talls aren't always the answer. I just want Smithfield to look as classy as Brindleyplace when finished - not a load of low level apartments with the odd awkward block thrown in.

Id be up for a majority park but we need some development or the park will be surrounded by areas that aren't really the best and just be a park out in the limb king of thing, liverpool one park comes to mind with what I'm thinking, bullring expansion into a Central Park and then develop the site around it

Also who'd want to go to a park where there's only dross around it?

The council would never do this. They need to make money to pay off their debts, this land is too valuable to turn in to a park.

This is the view from Starbucks inside Selfridges.

"Wholesale" has been removed for some reason!

Taken yesterday

Now all sorted, fire put out pretty quickly by the fire service, apparently wooden pallets were on fire in the building.

The Birmingham Post is saying that planning chiefs at the city council are likely to approve the moving of the wholesale markets to The Hub at Nobel Way, Witton, next Thursday.

The building will be built by IM Properties and will be 5.6 acres. It will include 78 business units operating 24 hours a day but won`t be open to the public.

Once the Wholesale markets move to Witton, the current site by the Bullring can be demolished ready for the future Smithfield development of residential, leisure, business and cultural uses.

It would great if when demolished, the site was grassed over, until built on......however In these austere times a surface level car park might be on the cards

Let`s hope there`s not the time for it to become a surface car park. I remember reading that the Council really wanted to get cracking with the Smithfield proposals a.s.a.p.

Considering all the balls ups they`ve made, it`s time they proved us wrong. For once.
