Passed through Chelmsley Wood earlier and saw the considerable redevelopment that's been sweeping through it since I was last there. Biggest ever I believe. Bellway Homes are stamping their mark on the area, homes going up near the Business Park, alterations to the entire one-mile stretch of the Chester Road, the Craig Croft area and currently Digby Court opposite Meridan Park where 161 one/three bedroom apartments/houses are currently going up, with landscaping of the area overlooking the River Cole which contained zero shopping trolley's or any corpses. It gets it's bad press, but it's no different than anywhere else.

According to my local paper, the plans to develop this site in Solihull (the old Thomas Cook) has been turned down by the council.

It think the new building was due to be 4 floors which I think was the main objection.

p.s. Where do I find the Solihull Development Thread ONE (this has replaced it)

Thanks for that, I forget it had its own thread (even though I had already posted some photos in it !)

Does anyone know who has taken the old JJB unit on Sears Retail Park? I noticed work has started on the unit.

I noticed work going on in the unit the other day, but sorry I have no idea who is taking it over.

I am surprised such a "prime" site has stayed empty for so long.

There's a sofa place on the Stratford Rd - Solihull Gate Retail Park. But isn't DFS.

There's a couple of sofa / household furnishing places already on the park or nearby. The nearest Maplin is in Solihull. I'm not sure there's actually a tenant lined up, I suspect the owner is just tidying it up as it looks a bit messy as it is now. I think the restrictions on the type of retail allowed on the park (no hot food, no clothing) really makes it difficult.

Sofaworks is where Currys used to be.

Unexpected Tweet reply from Prime Chartered Accounts this morning (as I tweeted back in October 2014 wondering if their building was going to get knocked down - got confused over the Waitrose site).

They are not going anywhere apparently. And have no plans to move.

Jaguar Land Rover have started to build their new Despatch Centre in Damson Parkway.

I have created a thread for it here (with loads more photos).

https://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1810306

Here is a "teaser" photo I took today of the bridge they are building.

The new KFC drive thru restaurant in Shirley is looking almost complete.

The bricked car park area, and the drive thru road looked finished to me.

It opens in early May 2015.

Meanwhile there is at least 3 empty units near the Solihull Gateway scheme on Station Road in the town centre.

One of them was Millets (who moved to Mill Lane opposite Argos).

I think one of them (a double fronted unit) was Bank of Ireland.

I think another was that old hardware store.

Yeah one was a hardware store as you say.

Seem to recall a video rental shop where that wine shop is now. (about 10 plus years ago).

Also spotted a stone shrine (with statues) in front of that catholic church. Not noticed it before!

Your comment from March 23rd.

I went to the retail park this weekend.

I did notice Dreams bedding shop has opened up in the retail park, but that is round the other side, near Halfords, Mothercare etc.

The old JJB unit is still all boarded up, with new wooden "doors" protecting it.

So maybe just extra security protection was being added to the unit, rather than someone taking it over.

I am now going to contradict my comment above.

Went down the retail park during the day yesterday and there IS work going on in that unit.

There is now a "cage" of metal fencing on the pavement outside the unit, and above the main entrance they have ripped out whatever was there and you can see inside.

It IS being refurbished, but no indication of who for.

JJB Unit

Hey all,

I've been following the Solihull threads for a while but this is my first post
I found this on the Solihull Planning Portal:

publicaccess.solihull.gov.uk/online-applications/files/DF1D86FADC8853AB93FF6D72208F3F10/PL_2014_00442_FULL-S106_MODIFICATION-401807.rtf

It looks like the JJB unit, but doesn't seem to say who it's for (unless I'm. missing something).

Anyhow, I didn't see it posted anywhere so I thought I'd chime in!

(Sorry had to remove the http colon slash slash as it wouldn't let me post links on account of being a noob - had to even spell it here to get past the validation!)
