Unfortunately it looks like the *brand new* Stourbridge College will be closing, ending 60 years of higher ed in the town. The college is part of Birmingham Met.

Do we know what’s planned for it? Huge waste of money if it’s just abandoned

Converted to a normal school?
I want people on here to think about whether they want the same for Wolverhampton and the West Midlands. It appears to me that the Wolverhampton threads tend to get lost in with the Birmingham proposals and the same for U/C sites. Maybe it would bring a big viewing audience to the Wolverhampton proposals if they are separate from Birmingham's.

Give it some thought and it'd be good to hear what people think at this stage.
I’m not sure we need a separate Wolvo forum (yet), but with regards to this official thread I am not keen on this combined Wolverhampton / West Midlands thread. I preferred Wolverhampton / Black Country, which I think makes more sense and seemed to be doing reasonably well? I don’t really want to click on the thread to be reading about Herefordshire.

Sorry for the delay with this reply, I’ve been having problems with loading the forum. You’re the boss Ralph, whatever you decide is fine by me and I’ll still be visiting regardless of how it’s organized.

Might be getting some street sculptures in Fordhouses, I think!

The hoardings that have appeared are for a secret to be unveiled by the council, to make up for trees lost in the Northern Gateway scheme.

The hoardings feature art made by prisoners at Oakwood, which will be auctioned off for charity.

Retail woes

The next shop on Dudley Street to be to let, but not visibly closing down, is Schuh.

That means we have:

- Foot Locker
- Schuh
- Select
- Icestone Gelato (Queen St)
- Barnado's (Queen St)
- Pound Cards (Queen St)

All of these are to let, but with no closing down signs.

So... positive speculation... Footlocker, Schuh and Select would be great in the Mander Centre. Can't see it happening though.

Big holes appearing in the retailscape.

More positively,

Metro Bank is well underway now. The canopy has been removed, already brightening up the street (although they've left the canopy above Carphone Warehouse). Hoardings around with all units seeing construction work now.

Forgot to say, I've returned this thread to being purely about Wolverhampton and the Black Country.

I've created new threads for Stoke-On-Trent and Staffordshire, Shrewsbury and Shropshire, and last but not least Redditch and Worcestershire.

I've kept the threads for Lichfield and for Telford separate.

A new Brewery and Taphouse has opened. New Invention Brewery have opened in Bloxwich and your roving reporter went on the opening on Saturday. All keg beers with 6 beers on, all of their own, but they are promising guest ales (Fixed Wheel, Burning Soul, etc).

It was fantastic. For those interested here's a linky. Looks like they'll be open on Saturday's for the taphouse, stock permitting. The beer really is good and well worth a visit.

In my experience, 'imminent' can mean SIX MONTHS. I wouldn't worry Badger.

When the weather improves I'm going to get out and take a few pics. Are there any constructions sites in the Dudley and Sandwell areas near bus routes worth checking out?

Having spread to 21 locations now, it looks like the original Little Dessert Shop in Wolverhampton is closing...

Heavenly Desserts however are opening, not sure where. Could be taking over the unit?

LDS are opening soon in Walsall.

There is a desert shop being fitted out at bottom of Darlington Street, in 'Premier House' ground floor.
