NORTH LOOP Developments

Looks like the 602 condo/apartment developers are taking a page out of 10th and Marquette's book and trying this site with itty bitty apartments as well... I've seen closets bigger than some of these units... 350 sq ft!

Should this get moved to the general developments? Or do you guys feel we should have individual threads for different locales?

I'd like a North Loop thread because there's a lot going on there.

Really? I don't think the Minneapolis dev thread is that active. I mean unless you've got 20+ posts every day, then it's hard to keep track of. I don't think we're there yet.

It certainly shouldn't be stickied.

**I'd also add that if you're going to start a major thread for a neighborhood then make it a bit more comprehensive. There are many projects being built, proposed, approved in the area. So include them all. Don't start a thread with just one single project noted. C'mon.

I live in a 350 square-feet studio. I think it's the perfect size for a single person, which is who these compact units are primarily aimed at. If there is a market for it, why not?

It's not about the activity. It's about not having 7 different threads for projects in one neighborhood. Especially since they're smaller.

Currently U/C in North Loop

District 600 apartments
Be The Match
Sharing and caring hands
Western Container Building

Planned:

Numerous restaurants
602 Apartments
Metro Transit site
IPR Hotel
T3
Steelcase
Hines?
Affordable housing projects
Greco projects
etc...

Agreed. Such threads should always at least have a map and a brief rundown of projects in the first post. Does BNelly7896 or anyone else want to compile the list?

What's the point of a stickied thread if it just has a few posts a day, or a week, etc?

There are many projects as you listed, yet the Gen Dev thread isn't overflowing with news, pictures, etc concerning those projects. A seperate thread is ok with me. But Sticky implies something more special.

That's the whole point of sticking a thread, to keep important low activity threads visible. If it has constant activity, it will already be at the top of the forum, so it doesn't need to be stickied.

We would be sticking a lot of threads by that logic.

Only the ones you want frequent access to but that don't necessarily have frequent new posts. This isn't rocket science.

.............no.............. it's not...........................it's city planning and development. Welcome!

I'm not sure I like the concept of multiple developments in one neighborhood thread. Mostly because if I want to look up information about a specific project I can do so easily by looking up the thread and finding all relevant content. Even if it falls to the second page all the content about the specific project is in one spot. Now if we use this thread for several different projects in the North Loop well then people will have to start paging through several pages to find old links to news stories and other related content about the specific project.

Even if the post counts are not that high. What is important IMO. is keeping that information divided so people can access that information quickly and without it being buried among other projects. It's a big step backwards, I hope the mods consider the consequences of promoting grouping of proposed projects.

Maybe projects in the suburbs could be grouped unless for the major developments. Yet, for downtown come on think about it. How accessible would that information be lumped together on 10-20 pages?

Here's the run down:

- 143 Units

- 2-3 new commercial spaces with 16,776 sq ft
- Applicant suggests one tenant should be a cross fit gym and the other tenant be a restaurant with outdoor seating

I don't see this thread being used much. Should I merge it with the main development thread?

I was hanging out today at the new Spyhouse in the Brunsfield Apartment building in the North Loop with the architect (seated in the foreground with the baseball cap). He's an old friend of mine and also designed the NE Minneapolis Spyhouse.

It's a really nice space. Sort of a Viennese Secessionist vibe to the design. Neat light fixtures and a carefully crafted maple herringbone & tin ceiling. Beautiful floor. Expensive details throughout.

It looks wonderfully open and airy but yet grounded with the dark ceiling.

I was just in Vienna. Went to Starbucks (and a few other "ethnic" [i.e., Austrian] coffee houses).

But the beer -

Then I went to the museum and asked to see a few Klimpts. They told me to go to Los Angeles.

Ha Yes, I suppose that makes sense only if you had some architectural or art history courses. But yeah, it does have some of that influence. It's really a change from the other Spyhouses.
